Surely if Kev Davies was Rowes agent there was a bit of a conflict of interest when we asked Davies to be part of the interview panel for a new manager which included interviewing Rowe?

Well, perhaps not a conflict of interest, but definitely not a level playing field. Maybe in reality they were both being interviewed?

Not sure that’s something that would have an impact on wether a manager decided to take a position at the club or not to be honest.

A new hope.

I'm also appreciative but am very sceptical about the educated guess claim from a national media reporter given he has previously shown no interest in covering us.

This very much smacks of someone leaking that discussions are taking place or more likely hinting that they should, whilst advertising Rowe's good form and potential to improve a negotiating position by giving it national reach.

It's really frustrating if there is someone within the club still leaking things out, what is their motive? And why haven't they been removed? It can't be that hard to figure out who leaks what. Get them out.

If it is more likely Rowe's agent touting him in the press already then that's weird, but you could almost understand it.

As Whistler says, I don't think Rowe is going anywhere, certainly not to a Northampton, Colchester of this world. If Ipswich were to bin off Lambert for example, you might understand that kind of move. Hopefully by that time we're back in the FL though and i'd forgive him for leaving :D

Reminds me of when there was talk of Tony Mowbray getting our managers job in the press and it turned out to be Carson telling someone that to try and figure out who was leaking things....and then we appointed Gary Caldwell!!

One thing we've learned is that money doesn't buy a decent manager. Look at Saunders and Caldwell.

What we have with Rowe, is manager with a knowledge and talent for buying good, effective players and tactical know-how at this level. To appoint a manager with a brief and for him to do it, is a rare commodity. To all intents, Rowe is doing what it says on the tin. He is gold dust. It would be a tragedy for him to leave before he's completed the job.

The point I'm making, is that even if we were given a large sum in compensation we would still be hard pressed to find a manager who could do the superb job he's doing.

In a nutshell, at this important time in our history, he is worth far more than a large amount of money.

The story according to you know who, was Radio Sheffield's Andy Giddings called him to confirm if it was Mowbray, he said it was because he had a beef with Giddings

I’m hoping that there is already a continuity plan, and the realisation that the DNA of JR tenure needs to be at the heartbeat of this club for many years going forward

This is a good thing, but I'm not worried.

Rowe would be silly to leave now, before he has achieved anything. He has an opportunity to prove himself by taking us back into the Football League - something which looks more and more likely (either this season or the next).

We are never going to hold onto the best managers when they come into our club, just like Cook - people will move onto new challenges. How many managers have we had recently that were so BAD we had to sack them?

Now we have a manager that is so GOOD that other clubs want him - great, it shows how far we've come under the Trust in such a short time.

I think Rowe will stick it out until we are in League 2, if he leaves us then - well good luck to him as he will have dragged us out of this pit of misery, given us promotion winning football and delivered us back to the Football League.

I think its in both the Rowe's and the club's interest that he stays until at least then.

The only observation I would make is that jumping from Gloucester to Chesterfield mid-season, relatively soon in the job would be seen as an expected and welcome career progression.

To follow that up with another move within a handful of months and nothing tangible achieved would get someone a reputation they'd find hard to shake.

yep. It would be interesting to know who had a bet on Caldwell, whose odds might well have lengthened.

Depends if its a significant step up and he delivers on the new role. Once in a lifetime opportunities dont come along very often and sometimes you have to take the risk and go for it - however, should you not succeed your reputation will need some rebuilding. I certainly did it when I was younger (and yep, it failed!)

Indeed .

In this case I don’t think Colchester, Northampton or similar would fall into the ‘once in a lifetime’ category. If Spurs offered him the job to replace Mourinho that would be a different matter.

He may be all they can afford once they pay the reported £35m it will cost to sack Mourinho!!

He may, depending on what budget he gets and what his targets are, stay beyond that. If he’s handed a “competitive” budget and asked to make the L2 play offs who knows, he may see that as a viable option and stay for an extra season while increasing his stock further in the football community.

Other clubs may be “watching” him, but until he proves himself how likely are they to take a punt on a non league manager when often experienced league managers get the gig. Nigel Pearson at Bristol for example.

Other clubs that want him may not be such an attractive option either. If we went up this season I’d expect crowds of 5500-6000 in L2. Would any L2 clubs match that? How many L1 clubs better that? And out of those that do, how many would take a chance on him given his experience so far is outside the EFL?

It took 2 promotions, a cup run to the 1/4 final and a further promotion challenge for a bigger club to poach the Cowley brothers. What would make an EFL club poach Rowe after less than 15 games in charge with us?

A new hope.

This club is no longer the dead duck’s carcass , ongoing bin fire that Cashley and Allen reduced it to. We now have the potential to match Rowe’s ambitions for a while and for him to take us forward, hopefully getting a promotion (or even two) onto his CV.
These go to eleven.
