I remember at Gillingham away in late ‘80’s / early ‘90’s Chris Marples having a shocker and getting abuse/ he gave back and gestured the Town fans to be w****.
Didn’t feel the need to clamber over the fence and attack him though!

Marps would have slapped you silly if you’d tried in fairness. Definitely wouldn’t have rolled around and invented things!

I highly doubt CPS was in the ground so probably take much of what he says with a dangerously largely pinch of salt.

Ashmore was being *** all game and has form for it. He wasn't racially abused or pushed over despite what the media reported, then backtracked on. If you dish it out on the scale he does then you have to expect a bit back. It went too far but for him to default to the race card to get some attention makes him pretty low down on the humanity spectrum.

He would have got some hammer tonight, and every bit of it would have been deserved.

You can highly doubt whatever you like son but have you seen the footage? He was pushed down in his own goalmouth and the idiot dived on him.

In any line of work that’s unacceptable to face.

For anyone to think it’s acceptable says more about them I’m afraid

Do that in the street and you’ll get nicked

To be fair, the person who attacked Ashmore was a known grade a c**t so Ashmore did us a favour in that regard.

Yes you're right about him not being pushed over, at least not deliberately. Our idiot got into Ashmore's face, then slipped and lost his footing, fell into Ashmore, and they ended up in a heap in the back of the net. The reaction around me on the kop was more one of amusement than anything else, since it looked a bit like a circus clown knockabout routine with individuals slipping and bumping into each other and falling over. It was all wrong and no fans should even have been on the pitch, but there was nothing nasty or violent about it, and with the additional penalty save drama it was the most memorable end to a match I'd seen for a long time.

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder when it comes to refs/coaches/certain players?

On the contrary, he was an experienced referee and a good one to boot who brings a valuable perspective to games. In addition, he's a decent bloke and would be one of the last people to carry a chip on his shoulder. He would have made a better centre-half than centre-forward when he played but that's another matter.

No he wasn't. I watched that unfold, saw it with my own two eyes. He was laid down in the net and the idiot ran up to him celebrating over him only for Ashmore to pull him down and over him almost Kung Fu style.
Don't get me wrong, I am not defending the supporter at all and at the time was having a heated argument with Spireitetoo about how the supporter had just screwed up a brilliant match.
But your term of what happened is wrong, the footage isn't 100% clear so you have got to accept that witness accounts are.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

I was on the Kop in S4 and saw it myself, and have seen the footage. You're just making stuff up - hence why every single reply in this thread is calling you out. Nobody has said it's acceptable, everybody has said is was wrong if you took time to read the replies. Everyone has also said he deserves some stick tonight - which he does.

As someone who has flown the BLM flag as much as you i'd have thought you'd be condemning someone who has done more harm to the cause than good. No time for him or any of his actions pre or post the incident. He's a **** and a liar. End of.

I don't know about you, but I was right behind that goal. There is no excuse for the behaviour of our supporters, which was unacceptable (but NOT racist as was later suggested). Equally, there is no excuse for Ashmore's behaviour; I've played and watched football for over 60 years in places including 1950's Glasgow, and London in the 60's and 70's, and I've never seen a more blatant and persistent attempt by a player to deliberately antagonise opposition fans. All those involved were complete idiots, and none of them, including Ashmore, should be able to use their childhood experiences as an excuse.

spot on.

Watching it in dismay, 2 key things stood out in the build up, and I shouted my concerns to Carson at the time; 1 The ref did nowt about Ashmore's blatant time wasting and that was the initial cause of the unrest; 2. Uncontrolled, angry fans congregated at the barriers right under the police control box and stewards did nowt. The Director in charge of Health and Safety should have had the game stopped.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Glad you mention footage, your comments would be appreciated on ashmores Facebook post trying to support his case, showing a fan at the game shouting racist abuse, only for ashmore to delete the post when it was pointed out the fan was an ebbsfleet fan.

The only defence ashmore could offer was he was doing a job, a job he was instructed to do and then encouraged to do during the game by the ebbsfleet coaching staff, to take advantage of CFCs unfortunate position following the solihull pitch invasion. I sit behind the dugout the actions to encourage ashmore were deplorable.

Back to tonight. I have severe reservations I watched their game v millwall and all you could here from their dugout was beration of the ref, which leads me to think tonights ref will put under severe pressure in the mind games department.
I hope our players are protected.

I know it's, my round. When the chance should arrive

Trouble being if I'd played centre half who'd have scored the goals?

I think you should stop digging tbh

You’ve lost the argument and sometimes it’s best just to hold your hands up

The arguments against you have been based on facts and put over on a clear and intelligent manner

Give it up man and let’s get back to talking about football what we would all be doing if it wasn’t for Ashmore
