It’s often said that the difference in players in League 2 and Conference is all fitness and attitude.

Similarly talented players (with a lot of exceptions away form the median talent wise of course as well) but a lot can be done to improve certain aspects.

The fitness is a massive issue. Mainly due to a lot of the clubs being part time of course and not having the capabilities etc.

If I were Town I would prioritise the fitness/conditioning/S&C side of the club (and I’m aware that ship has long since sailed before any comments come thick and fast lol).
Seems to have been a vacancy there for ages which in this generation is terrible.
I know I say this every year ....(but look at the tables of the last few years- they don’t tend to lie).

The attitude is harder but instilled from the top down- from board room and particularly manager and coaches.
You think attitude was good under JS? Nah probably not- under JP- I’d hope so a lot more.

Just my 2 Penneth worth (and I’m right btw)!

Not just fitness but standards and attitudes need raising as well. For too long this club has rewarded mediocrity or downright poor performance. So many players have come here and half bothered their way through a season and not been held accountable for it, you can see the lack of effort on the pitch. How many times have so called lesser clubs come to our door with part time players or lesser skilled players who work their socks off and play together which result in them beating us.

The first season down here was a perfect example. They were trash until Sheridan came and then showed up for a few games and got out of trouble. We rewarded a lot of them who had struggled badly and sure enough next season when things start they struggle badly again, weirdly enough until yet another new manager comes in and they start to play well for a bit again. That should not be accepted. That's two years we've flirted uncomfortably with relegation.

If Pemberton gets the gig he needs to start shipping out those who've underachieved the last two years and get in hungry players with a point to prove who will put in the same effort and commitment that other teams do when they visit us. That's the minimum we should be expecting

Said it in L2 and I think it's more relevant now.

Match the other side's workrate and the better talent our better gates SHOULD allow ought to make the difference...
Never underestimate the stupidity of people

Spot on assessment. When I think of the likes of O'Grady it makes me want to weep at the money he was stealing.

Interestingly no one has mentioned consistency. You might have the better players, you might be fitter, but if you’re not consistently performing to your best, and doing so collectively as a team, then no matter what league you’re in you will struggle.

You are spot on as long as "your best" is good enough.
