Joking aside, I thinks its a good idea.

Ok so we'd have Carlisle, Morecambe, Bradford, Oldham, Salford, Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Macclesfield, Mansfailed, Crewe, Port Vale & Walsall from L2, Hartlepool, Barrow, Fylde, Halifax, Chorley, Stockport, Wrexham, Notts County and Us from NL, one short so promote York? (If we assume no relegation/promotion due to Covid)

If so, think we’d better revisit the retained list.

Would be cracking but can't deny we'd be getting a huge benefit from it not shared by the league 2 sides, be surprised if they'd all be quite so unanimously in favour
I just don't know what I'm supposed to be

I don't see why that would be necessary.

I can see League 2 sides agreeing, to a financial viewpoint. Macclesfield would get us and Stockport as two decent gates, Wrexham, Notts and ourselves are decent travellers support wise which always works in our favours. Lots of local travelling matches should push attendances up.

You’ve omitted Harrogate.

Even with Harrogate there are only 22 teams when both L2 and the NL normally have 24 so the Southern League would be over populated.

However, unless something is done about the sharing of the spoils from the EFL etc wouldn't the teams currently in L2 be worse off financially whilst the ones from the NL would gain?

There is no way they will vote to receive less guaranteed income no matter what the arguments might be regarding cutting down on travel and related costs.

On the subject of Harrogate, they are still hopeful of promotion and I think with good reason

Can you imagine the angst across the M1 if we ended up back in the FL in the same division as them without ever gaining promotion? Be worth a giggle at least!

Good spot, and I'd not got to 24 teams either. So the other team to add in as things stand are Kings Lynn. Also need to take the extra team to go into League One in to consideration, but that would be either Crewe or Swindon at a guess so would the Phoenix Bury club be admitted back in if it turns out to be Crewe.

Would this mean 1st round entry to the FA cup? The downside being back in the JPT.

Some interesting calculations to get the balance of teams right in the 3 tournaments. We must be due a bye!!

If it's the JPT over the FA Trophy it's definitely not a downside!
