It isn't. Somebody said on here that no team goes from being relegation to promotion candidates in one season. I'd guess it would probably be a neutral position for us. Anyway, it's academic.

Note quite promotion candidates because they had nowhere to go, but Leicester City 2015/16 would like a word. Maybe if we get Ranieri in for next season we'd stand a chance
These pretzels are making me thirsty!

National League now exploring the possibility of having play offs..Notts County better get replanting their pitch!

Solihull, Hartlepool, woking, barnet, even dover would be back in the mix then.

Apologies if this has been raised before. Clearly, in our position, with nothing to gain from a playing perspective (and lots to lose) we are happy for the season to end and not be relegated.
However, from a financial point of view, if the Premier League, and potentially the EFL, restarts on 8 June or shortly afterwards through to the end of July or beginning of August (with play-offs and European games) even a tiny close season means not restarting until September or thereabouts. That is a mighty long time before match day income of any kind whilst other, richer clubs are playing.
Have the NL thought this through and have they gone a lap too early?

which is another curve ball to throw into the mix, fixture congestion. would barnet have been able to maintain a play off push if they had 2 games a wk til the end of the season?

Looking like they are thinking of creating a solution of just promoting Barrow to me.

Final decision next week

Everyone announces no promotion or relegation. EFL invites Barrow to join; Barrow resign from the NL. Job done. The real winners are Chorley!
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

What an inexcusable kick in the balls that would be for Harrogate!

Whatever the solution it is a kick in the galls to someone - if it has to be Harrogate so be it.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. We have no idea of when football will be allowed to be played again. We have no idea of how many Clubs might not live to see whatever happens next. Various league seasons abroad are being brought to an early end. It's clear that some very difficult decisions are going to have to be made. It's even more clear that no one decision will make every single Club happy. Etc. Etc.

But, why it is "an inexcusable kick in the balls for Harrogate" I'm not sure? They might or might not have overtaken Barrow. If they hadn't done they would most probably have been in the play-offs unless their end of season form dipped dramatically. Notts County and Yeovil already think they have been hard done by and, as such, must consider that they had a good chance of promotion either as Champions or through the play-offs. Harrogate are no different.

I think that the Premiership will make certain decisions eventually after exploring all avenues to satisfy it's own greed. Until then I can't really see how the EFL can make full and complete decisions about any of their 3 divisions. Then comes the NL. Depending on how many Clubs from the NL the EFL invite to join their ranks the NL cannot make any decisions about promotions from it's North and South leagues. If it does then, in my opinion, this could be subject to change either because of later decisions taken by the higher leagues or because just before the time the new season can be started it may well have to take stock of which Clubs are financially capable of finishing that season.

As it stands it’s a bigger kick in the balls for the clubs that have achieved promotion already and had seasons cancelled.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. The season should be voided.

Agree. If clubs lower down NL pyramid have been denied promotion the same should apply to Barrow and Harrogate.

Then there will be a vote to decide on if and how to sort out the placings.

AC says he's willing to take the view of the fans into account when casting his vote, so I'll set up a poll on here when he gets the options through

As per the above where AC confirms he will be guided by the fans I have set up a poll for members on here to state what outcome they prefer on the first stage vote regarding the play offs, link below or check out the poll section of the message board

Maybe, there already is one in the Polls section which pops up to the top of "view new content" (which covers all postings) once a new vote has been made, but that being said I suppose many don't use this function and it does no harm so I'll give it a try

Whilst this isn't the most meaningful poll it may help the powers that be see it's a useful tool to gauge fans opinion

Getting through this pandemic and trying to return to society to some form of norm is a far more important endeavour than football. The season should be canned. However I hope that Barrow are given the opportunity to apply and gain entry to the football league, I say this because I'd be asking exactly the same would it be our club in this situation, I'm not going to be like some and pretend I'd be asking for the season to be voided if we were top after this long. It's not like they are top after only 5 games and getting a free pass. 37 games played is a decent representation of the season and whilst not a full season they are the best team by this late stage of it and the league has an empty place so that's a bit of luck for them.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!
