That’s probably much nearer the truth than anyone in Whitehall would admit to.

With that in mind, it'll be interesting to see how Johnson's portrayed by his mates in the media.

Fact is he's been out the picture for much of this crisis, so whilst he'll probably escape blame for the growing catalogue of failings - his own promises on PPE and testing conveniently forgotten, no doubt - they can hardly offer him Churchillian applause either.

Infact other than the millions of ordinary workers who're the REAL heroes so far only Sunak and Cuomo in New York have come out with any credit...

Cuomo is really good to listen to, if it can be good on this subject, Trump must despise his interviews!

Do you think Johnson will be seen again before there is some good news to announce?

He is criticised by his own side, especially those tagged ‘progressive’ as being too much of a pragmatist and bureaucrat, but to me that’s what is required. He doesn’t shy away from bad news and is pretty concise and unambiguous in what he says.

It is interesting that he gets just about as much airtime on UK news as Trump gets. The comparison is quite painful. I see Trump agrees, he’s tweeting in real-time during Cuomo’s press conference. Good job he doesn’t have a global pandemic to worry about.

That is one advantage that the American system, powerful states and governors that can partially compensate for inaction at national level.

There're two Boris Johnsons.

There's the one under scrutiny, the one who bluffs and blusters and ruffles his hair and looks furtively around saying anything that'll get him through the next two minutes knowing he can simply lie to deny it later.

The same one who had to be forced into daily pressers where he repeatedly deferred to the medics as soon as facts were required.

Then there's the one freed from a pesky little thing like the truth, the one who'll fist-pump the air delivering rousing speaches peppered with fact-free assertions and hypocritical hubris.

Probably with a couple of quotes in half-assed latin just to remind everyone he went to Eton.

So to answer your question no, not a chance...

Remember all those promises of PPE being stockpiled? Being in the pipeline? Being delivered?

Well NHS staff have just been told to re-use one use stuff 'cos it was gonna run out this weekend.

An announcement made just as the representatives were taking to the daily briefing podium, strangely enough.

In the space of just three weeks we've gone from medics in Burberry to medics in bin bags...

Certainly the case for our lad's junior school. Open for kids of key workers all half term.
We've had individually set maths, english, science and topic work sent via google classrooms. he's busy 9-3 most days.
Responses from the teachers with marking.
Just a pity his home-based-teachers arn't as good as his his virtual ones.

Yep, all Easter holiday including Good Friday and Easter Monday. I work in one, though thankfully don't teach, I was on rota on Good Friday.

I'm missing work being 'normal', but I'm not in a hurry to go back to being in a full school with no PPE. I get the feeling a lot of parents aren't happy to send their children back either.

That last week in school was scary. I'd got my son coming home from secondary, other kids being pushed out poorly, loads coughing in the corridors. Meanwhile I was looking after pupils who were drilling noses, sucking thumbs, licking fingers...

Eldest had to do some banking for work today, town was, in her words, 'heaving and people were getting far too close'. We've both noticed an increase in people out and about over the last two weeks, so for her to be shocked is saying something. If folk keep this up, we'll be 'shut' all summer too, which I know was mentioned as a possibility when we first closed.

As usual, folk like S&D have no idea or respect for education staff, sick of seeing us being accused of lapping up this lockdown and having screw all thought about staff safety.

Trump calling for three states to be “liberated” and NY not thankful.

Do you really believe anything that comes out of China? Are you really that naive? I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers of deaths wasn't much short of 100000, and the date the first case's reported was months out.

Do you believe anything that comes out of Croatia? After all, they had the pre WW1 balknan wars. We had WW1 strarted, and brutally implemented in Yugoslavia. WW2 the Ustasie and their heinous crimes. Move into the 1990-2000 period, and no one needs to document crimes.

Are they better than Germans who have repented?

Is Germany or Yugoslavia , right now a hot bed of ethnic tension?

Maybe you need to ditch bosche, Audi etc for zastava. That seems to suit your style.

You’ve set your own bar, your own standards.

No it's not normal to work 12 hours. And I accept that it is stressful - glad I am not doing it. But in a normal ICU you have one nurse to one patient, with Covid it can be one nurse to 6 patients. And they aren’t being trained to do all of the ICU role, but there are things they can do to free up ICU skills to do ICU tasks.

But you said Nightingale isn’t working because it has no staff. That’s not true.

Don’t know about people moving out to care homes, I do know people who have recovered have been sent home which is obviously a challenge...

You clearly stated as "evidence" of enough nurses to open Nightingale hospital that there had been training courses. I think I've asked you twice now how many people were being trained, which group were being trained and what to do. I also asked you your personal opinion of why you think intensive care staff are working 12 hour shifts when there are nurses who are "soon upto speed". I'll add another - who was the lead consultant who claimed that we had not reached capacity for ventilators when there have been requests to Nightingale to take patients but being refused on the grounds that they can only take patients who only need ventilating and have no underlying health issues. Answer these questions and I'll continue the conversation.
I am desperately hoping Nightingale will go on stream but I have great doubts. Unfortunately the deaths and associated misery are too much for me. I am no lefty but I am intelligent. It doesn't take too much intelligence to realise this government has made this crisis into an appalling disaster. Why have other countries been so much better at handling the crisis ? Why haven't we tested when the WHO recommended " test, test test"? Why did we reject the offer of a joint purchase of PPE with the EU? It seems like this government are predominantly a group of upper class bumbling buffoons who even the Daily Mail are finding it difficult to support. You may be the only one left soon.
Some good news though v belated is that I know of an ex A/E consultant who has taken a job at Nightingale Birmingham and I spoke to a friend last night who volunteered at government request but he his awaiting RCB testing.

Which EU member currently has an adequate provision of PPE?

Dunno if they have 'adequate' my friend, but Germany have certainly eased the pressure by implementing mass testing early doors.

The mass testing that's seen them lose amongst the fewest lives in the world and which we're still hundreds of thousands short despite repeated promises.

From leopards who just can't change their spots.

I'm gonna have a wild guess here and suggest the fact they spent a far, far higher percentage of GDP on health prior to the pandemic played a significant part, too...

Without wishing to resort to hysteria but you can see some sort of social breakdown coming in the more, shall we say, rustic parts of the states if this caries on much longer!

Hope you're well.

The testing has been shambolic and in my opinion, the mass rollout remains the key to life getting back to some sort of normality.
