To suggest the hospital has not been needed is surely incorrect. The first week in April there were 6,000 EXTRA deaths in the UK that is 6,000 more than the usually very stable number. Only about 3,500 are logged as due to the virus but we are not testing and we don't know why all these extra people are dying. If nurses could soon be up to speed then why are nurses working 12 hour shifts during this crisis which we knew was coming - they've had 2 months to get up to speed. I still maintain that there are not enough nurses or not enough volunteers to run the hospital. Who were the people being trained and what were they expected to be after training ? To suggest there are enough nurses is disingenuous or you are in denial.

I believe his reply, and most others to you were in response to the guff of it being nothing more than a publicity stunt.
A new hope.

Nah, enough people get it with mild symptoms and even those with severe symptoms can recover.

Having said that, there’s something about this virus. People being re infected and apparently having no immunity? It’s passed from a human who had no symptoms to tigers in a zoo? Strange that a virus can so easily pass between species. The spike protein also apparently has extremely low levels of RNA, and single not double receptors meaning it’s harder for the immune system to fight it. I’ll try and find the article I was reading.

What you say doesn’t tell the accurate story about the WHO and travel bans. It was against outright bans because it would encourage the illegal rather than the controlled movement of people. Those tempted to cross borders illegally would be more likely to spread the virus. Travel bans did not stop the catastrophe in the USA. We know that for sure. Incidentally, given Trump’s unilateral ban on travel between EC countries and USA, later extended to British andIrish citizens, how come several American airlines, BA and Virgin Atlantic are still permitted by us to fly several times a day between virus “hotspots” in the States and here? Someone, somewhere might have a plausible explanation.

This article doesn’t back up your theory

America just had its first march without a school shooting in 18yrs.
downside is gun applications are at a record high. theres some itchy trigger fingers out there when the targets return.

I guess to some, Covid will seem small time in a country where hundreds of thousands are gunned down every year.

With the President's apparent blessing, of course.

But anyway, just watched health secretary Hancock squirm his way through another interview. Yesterday he was challenged over the government's promise of twenty five thousand tests per day by the middle of April - which I seem to remember 'honest' Johnson himself making - only to deny it. Well he was confronted with official documents showing that's exactly what was pledged - yet blamed not enough people coming forward rather than admit hitting barely half that target.

Or saying something simply >ahem< 'not true' at the podium.

Next footage emerged of him stating we were 'world leaders in testing' at the outset of the pandemic. Despite confirming tens of thousands of travellers are still - STILL - pouring into our airports completely untested.

Not to mention the countless carers still awaiting what Gove's daughter conveniently got.

Oh, then asked if he'd match the wage cuts he'd demanded from footballers - and being seen amongst politicians abroad - refused to do so.

Cringeworthy.

Though hey, at least he didn't scapegoat the WHO...

seems they are now turning on their own in the blame game. todays mail on line reports Jeremy hunt being blamed tory mps & a minister (un named obv) for leaving us unprepared for the covid virus. dating back to the 2016 'exercise' & the lamentable actions taken from this.

There are a lot of nurses in hospitals who dont work in ITU. Much of their normal work has been scaled back as far as it can be, so they have redeployed those who can be retrained with minimal effort to different front line duties. Would more be good - of course, hence the request for those recently retired to return to work to put more current nurses and docs on the front line

As for the hospital not being needed, that came from a front line consultant who said that the ITU capacity (increased wherever possible with hospitals that existed) had not been exceeded. I dont see a reason to disbelieve him, so no denial from me. You can try and make a story if you want, but from my position (working in London, with access to updates from the emergency authorities for the area that the Excel arena is in) I see no reason to say that the reason it didnt open was a publicity stunt / not enough nurses, whichever you have now settled on.
Stay Home. Stay Safe.

Okay, so hopefully that same platform will publish accounts of the current cabinet condemning him at the time and voting against rather than for public service underfunding...

You could say that about any charity, Comic Relief, Sport Relief, RSPCA, Band Aid,Cancer, Lifeboats, RSPCC, Air Ambulance, Shelter, Ashgate Hospice etc, all could be funded by the taxpayer and not donations,

These charities existed before this government , I don’t see the problem that if private individuals such as Piers Morgan want to chip in a bit extra to help

As much as Morgan is hated and can be a nob, he's really showing up some politicians for what they are. Said it yesterday but i have no idea why politicians are still going on GMB without being fully prepped with all the facts and figures they need for the impending attack Morgan will launch.

There are absolutely loads of charities and fundraising that take place to help the NHS

https://www.nhschari...together.co.uk/

Chuck schools in as well, they’re not charities but do loads of fundraising

Nothing wrong with anything that puts money where it’s needed, taking pressure of the taxpayer and benefits from generosity of those that can afford it

Thanks for this! I had forgotten this project existed.
Installed in last night, it's already run 8 lumps of covid research for various universities and labs.

For those who don't know, there is a program can install on your computer that will, when your computer is idles, runs complex maths simulations for various medical projects for research into covid, huntingtons, cancers, parkinsons, ebola.
with hundreds of thousands of computers doing bits of work they have effectively the worlds faster computer that can run research quickly that may not be possible otherwise.

Took me 2 minutes to install and set going, you can set up an account and get credit, or you can let it just run anonymously.
The link is below if you want to donate your computers processing power when you are not on here!
