I feel the Nightingale hospital was purely a publicity campaign to overshadow the incompetence in getting PPE sorted as efficiently as other countries. I know several Drs and nurses in London saying there was absolutely no way it could be staffed.
I know a few serving military personnel. I can assure you, there are dozens and dozens of medics and medical officers on standby for these nightingale hospitals.
Staffing levels might not be what a normal ICU has in normal circumstances, but these are not normal circumstances. I’m also of the view that it is a positive if these are not being used, it means that the numbers of sick and dying people might be less than it could have been. Do you not think that’s a positive position to be in?
Publicity stunt? Have a word with yourself.
Also, if anyone says it’s a waste of money, is it? Really? A precautionary measure that is on standby to treat 4000 sick and dying people were the pandemic to get worse a waste of money? While I agree it’s a disgrace that so far in some hospitals they still seem to be using bin bags (as of 3 days ago anyway) how can anyone say building extra emergency capacity to treat sick and dying people is a waste of money?
Surely it’s better to have built it and not used it, than have to leave over 80s to die because there was no extra capacity- as they did in parts of Italy?
I suggest some of you read Gokus post 1002 from yesterday.
Blind criticism over objectivity. The virus isn’t a voter, it doesn’t need to be won over with petty and pointless political point scoring. That can wait, that I’d suggest is best saved for how the aftermath is dealt with, and who ends up having to pay for it.
