They don't have to take it all, it is a maximum allowance not a blank cheque, it has to be receipted and scrutinised. There has been a massive cost to my husbands employer for getting staff that normally only work from a desktop PC, working at home whilst still maintaining GDPR compliance. Can we save the snout in the trough remarks until someone puts in a freedom of information request to find out how much of it they actually spent, and on what.

they get 26k pa already for office expenses.
with a wage of 70k plus allowances wouldn't it have been better to pay first & then claim it all back later after this is all over?
it smacks of snouts in trough.

It does a bit, and I’m amazed MPs are so thick they didn’t realise this and publish some sort of explanation as to what costs this will cover.
My wife has never had to work from home in her life but she has been doing for 3 or 4 weeks now, the university haven’t given her any extra money to facilitate that 🤷🏼‍♂️
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always get.

It certainly does. Shame they've not extended this privilege to other public sector workers, who are required to work from home... HMRC staff, for instance.

so a friend of mine is PA to a Labour MP. He has used some of the allowance to buy a laptop for a member of his team who lives 60 miles from her desktop in the constituency office. As not long out of uni, and living with a single Mum fighting cancer, that seems fair. He has also bought himself an iPad as he doesnt use a laptop normally and is struggling with video conferencing for meetings currently. Also sort of seems fair but he can definitely afford to buy his own like most of us have had to do for extras needed to work from home...

As in all things, there will be some MPs who treat it as though it was there own money and are very careful and only spend if absolutely necessary, and there will be those who take the proverbial. Lets hope the scrutinising bodies are very thorough in rejecting excess claims....
Stay Home. Stay Safe.

You are very harsh

This Jenruck guy travelled 150 miles to his £1.2M pad just so he could serve his country from home. He needs all the help he can get.

My fatha's in a bad way. Ultra vulnerable to this bug and needing a concoction of pills every day. But he has them delivered free, a service most if not all pharmacies offer, meaning I don't travel a hundred and fifty yards...

PS: this is the same Jenrick who stood in front of the press a fortneet ago telling us what a terrific job his government are doing and millions of pieces of PPE were in the process of being delivered. So how did that work out then, Rob...

RMT chief Steve Hedley hung up live on LBC after Maajid Nawaz asked him about his comments that he'd throw a party if Boris Johnson died from coronavirus.

The Prime Minister spent three nights in intensive care at St Thomas' Hospital after his symptoms of coronavirus worsened last weekend.

Mr Hedley, the Assistant General Secretary of the RMT Union, wrote on Facebook: "I don't want to offend you, but if Bojo pops his clogs, I'm throwing a party.

"I hope the whole cabinet and higher echelons of the Tory party have been touching various bits of him."

I hope you and yours are all orate.

This in my opinion needs a truce cos there will be lot's of them on both sides that have broken the rule, and some will be daft enough to call for a sacking only to get ratted on themselves later.

I'd bet loads of MP's with another house, your friend and mine Baroness Nugee has about 5, have thought 's***, that gate's not locked' or 's***, I need that address book and me whisky' etc etc, 'I'll have to nip back, it's only 150 miles.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

No excuse., but not all of them will be ministers who have been standing in front of the nation lecturing us on how we should behave.

Well y'know that 'underclass' under discussion?

Those either too ignorant or arrogant to think common decency applies to them?

Well Robert Jenrick's a member. As is this RMT bloke. As is the Wetherspoons bloke. As is the Sports Direct bloke. As are all those queue jumping, hoarding, profiteering, posting attention seeking hypocrisy on social media, abusing public services or having distancing defying get togethers.

And the orange buffoon who's given so much licence to these and far too many already populating it is the president...

Apologies. I’d had a bit too much to drink last night.

There are lots of people saying they hope this virus will lead to a new world with people behaving differently and better going forward. All i am seeing at the moment is it bringing out the worst in a lot of people.

Good luck to everyone, stay safe. And please stick to the rules as I would like to get back to Chesterfield to see my Mum and extended family this summer....

too much, is that possible?

Hope that you are keeping safe and taking care, and family are well. A little extra alcohol and a remarkably coherent post when a bit tipsy is fine.... @Misnomer is a big boy and doesnt mind fighting his own corner. Despite having slightly different views on the world to him, he seems a decent sort and no doubt took it in good spirit... so all done and we can be mates again...

PS I am told by someone who worked for BoJo when he was Mayor that he is way more socialist that his old Cambridge chum Cameron so expect him to be much more spend and invest than cut, he likes to be popular remember! We can worry about the finances after he has gone in good old Blair stylee...

That’s a tricky one, there are a great number of twitter users who will have good IQs and could be deemed ‘intelligent/intellectual’ but they are massively up themselves and have no emotional intelligence, they post possibly more offensive drivel.

It was tongue in cheek but you have a good point.

I’d happily make accounts have to be fully verified and linked to an NI/Passport etc number to weed out the trolls.

You only have to see the responses to Boris Johnson and Pep Guardiola this week to see that twitter is packed with morons hidden behind fake accounts doing what they want with know repercussion.

If people were made accountable for posts they might think twice

The 10th NHS doctor has died from Covid-19

All seem to come from the BAME community which is a remarkable and sad statistic

Peter Suttcliffe, Roy Whiting, Ian Huntley?...but someone who's view People may disagree on or just votes differently to me, or does me and my family no ill then never. Some one who is trying to get a new life etc etc no of course no one of a sane mind would ever wish them to get this awful disease. Some of the stuff that's reported on you tube etc is pitiful.

Did in say I wanted women and children to drown?

I may have said that boats carrying illegals that could have people on board who wish to harm us should be stopped and if necessary sunk, that’d put a stop to it

I’ve tried to find the thread

But I’m not a high ranking member of the RMT and I wasn’t talking about our PM who thankfully seems to be on the road to recovery
