Actually, he isn’t wrong - it was widely reported in the Japanese press here that the Chinese government were calling coronavirus “Japanese pneumonia” about a month back, though the Japanese media tend to be sensationalist in these kind of matters. Like you, I couldn’t find anything in English, you’ll just have to trust me that it says that in this Japanese link (though it is from the Huffington Post):
