More likely a Kinnock. Trying to get the party away from the left of Momentum like Kinnock rid them of Militant tendency. I think the majority is too large to be overturned in one term and many of those who left Labour over the brexit let down won’t return easily.
Massive job on his hands and if he fails then I feel Labour is over.

I voted for him. The only logical candidate to vote for really. I liked Nandy until she decided to agree with an LGBT group that there was no difference between a biological woman vs a transwoman which is demonstrably false so I gave up on her.

He’s got a decent record, but I don’t know how well a remainer is going to go down when Labour is trying to win back the working class midlands/northern vote who clearly voted Brexit. We shall see.

It’s a delicious irony that the son of toolmaker and a nurse is classed as unelectable in the north because he is ‘middle class’ and went to a state school after passing his11-plus. They just voted for public school boys.

The country will be a very different place with very different issues in 5 years time

I did too. Alongside AR. And as you say he's a steady record in high office - in stark contrast to his opposite number, of course. Yeah, he can come across a little dull, a bit MOR maybe, but you'd like to think competence can at some point counteract bluff and bluster.

Though I'm sure it won't be long before those turning the blindest of eyes to Johnson's moral bankruptcies will be digging up minor misdemeanors to smear him.

As for Brexit it's a similar situation to Convid. It's happening. There's no stopping it. Albeit the public actually voted for it. So Starmer's gotta be equally pragmatic; acknowledge such realities whilst holding the government to account.

He struck exactly that note in his acceptance speech and must have a very simple message going forward: never, ever again should free marketers be allowed to espouse public spending cuts to fund tax cuts or racists-in-all-but-name to vilify migrants currently proving so vital...

Always the smears of the Right: a working class person espouses egalitarianism and it's 'the politics of envy', however when a better off person does it they're 'champagne socialists'...

He needs to do more than say "sorry" for the anti Semitism. He needs to kick it out That's going to take some doing.

The problem appears to be that a lot of people disagree with how Israel behaves though would not feel they are anti semitic or anti any other group or religion etc.
Israel is the Jewish state however so it is always going to be difficult and how it behaves will have an impact on how Jews are viewed
I hope that makes sense

Back to Kier Starmer no matter how good he may be as the Labour leader I can't get my head round the fact that a member of the peerage is the leader of a socialist party

He needs to dump the sir crap

Agreed, although his Is more deserved than some (if these titles can ever be deserved) he’d do well to make it very public he wants it dropped

Then again, the GBP do like to kiss pinky ring, so it might be a mistake

I'd point out that being a knight is not technically part of the peerage system......it's the next level below the peerage system admittedly but let's not let the facts get in the way of irrelevance.

It's a part of the board where anything other than Spireite matters can be discussed and debated. I disagree with lots of points in this personal section but everyone's is entitled to voice a view on any subject. I sometimes feel one or two get too personal when looking at others views but it can make interesting reading. Anyhow if it was purely a Spireite forum in all sections then they'd be B****Y little to talk about at the moment!
