Good to see everyone caring about animal welfare now

What’s the phrase, virtue signalling? ;)

I would expect that it should be in place for every front line health service worker that can possibly be exposed at the time that they require it in a pandemic?

Just as I would expect it before starting any dangerous job.

6 Staff sharing 1 pair of goggles.

Told to wear gloves to 4 patients before changing them.

In this country, one of the richest in the world today.

Just told over the phone to me right NOW by a friend who has just finished a shift and was in absolute pieces.

An absolute disgrace.

There should be no apologists, nothing, they had time to prepare and still let Cheltenham go ahead for one.

Anyway we've got 30...yes 30 ventilators coming on the weekend. Supposedly someone somewhere missed an email somewhere and they accidentally gave contracts to Conservative party donors?

This should never be forgotten.

Damn right they deserve medals, but before that they deserve funding properly, and protecting.

I think you're right. I've made a real effort to lessen my red meat intake, I think I mentioned it earlier in the new year and I think I'm doing ok. Of course I could do better, but ultimately we all could...like I mentioned before I bet the pangolins are upsetting me greatly themselves, and who can blame them!

I was expecting you much earlier HB.

I guess were being hypocritical to an extent. But, I maintain UKs humane farming of animals is infinitely superior to some practises seen elsewhere. And I guess purely from animal, welfare, your stance is infinitely superior to mine.

I saw a video recently of “prairie dogs” that had been skinned alive. It was harrowing. Utterly brutal. Humanity at its absolute worst. We are a terrible species.

A friend showed it to me, as we’re talking about China. I suggested long held peasant practices, and the starving to death of millions of peasants during Chairman Moa’s Great Leap Forward as a reason for what we see today. A simple indifference to animal suffering because you want to get it into your belly as fast as possible? Starvation will do crazy and desperate things to people

But what I saw, and if you google it I’d advise viewer discretion, isn’t cultural. It isn’t poverty. It’s brutality. I dunno, maybe these people have lived under such a cruel and brutal regime where life means nothing that they have, as a nation they have just become immune to suffering and pain that empathy isn’t something they feel anymore.

I remember tianamenan square, I remember an elderly relative saying the troops will go in tomorrow- see the colour stars on the uniform, they are the commissars they won’t wager, they won’t worry about killing civilians where the troops might - and so it transpires

So the government's answer to widespread criticism of their testing record?

Well Matt Hancock's just said the figures are wrong. That only around five percent of medical professionals are off and respected bodies representing them have somehow exaggerated numbers.

So he's gone from applauding NHS staff to discrediting their word in less than twelve hours.

And I can't believe it's not a decision made by his puppetmasters. The same ones who smeared doctors and nurses and parents revealing patients on trolleys - or even the floor - at the last election.

Either way Johnson and Co have set a new target - a hundred thousand tests per day by the end of April. Weeks too late and still - STILL - way fewer than what comparable countries were doing long ago. All we can hope is they do better at hitting that than barely half of the twenty five thousand promised a fortnight ago...

We have to give the goverment some credit. They've moved away from the "let them die" approach Dominic Cummings was punshing and are now thinking, how the **** do we get the country working again. Their stategy is 'immunity passports' which I suppose isn't that different from their original stance of 'herd immunity' is an example. However what happens to the people who haven't had the antibody tests or haven't contracted the virus yet?

As for Hancock at least he didn't imply that health workers were pilfering PPE equipment as Trump did a few days ago, so that's a blessing. He even shouldered some responsibility, which is an absolute first for this goverment

Are you saying that Cumming said, 'let them die?' Can you give us the source?

He has history in this area and hired someone with a keen interest in Eugenics, so I know who I beleive

I've read the sources. There are lots of quotes and interpretations from others but nothing that attributes the quote directly to him. The villain of the piece seems to be one, Andrew Sibisky, a geneticist, who has made similar quotes in the past. In the absence of firm evidence it seems those who don't like Cummings have done polished up some cross fertilisation of quotes to smear their man.

Why would you condemn Cummings for having an interest in eugenics? Modern eugenics, better known as human genetic engineering, changes or removes genes to prevent disease, cure disease or improve your body in some significant way. The potential health benefits of human gene therapy are staggering since many devastating or life-threatening illnesses could be cured. Presently the DNA of the Caronavirus has been circulated world wide to scientists working on an anti viral vaccine. There are, of course, moral issue that must be overcome.

Sorry but this is ridiculous. Four reds - and I don't give a damn - but for simply asking a question with no opinion attached to it. How intolerant is that?

The lefty bully boys have finally taken over the asylum and we all are poorer for it.

I'm out of here and will confine my contributions to the footy section in future.

Cummins hired Sibisky, John. Despite his disgusting record of racism and suggesting compulsory contraception (don't wanna invoke 'Godwin's Law' yet surely the parallels are obvious). And not out of some innocent interest in eugenics but to appoint him a government advisor. An official government advisor.

Dunno if you've added the BBC to your list of 'lefty bully boys' but here's what they reported: https://www.bbc.co.u...litics-51538493

With criticisms underlined by a serving minister, you'll note.

It's also worth remembering Sibisky resigned despite a Number Ten occupied by a bloke describing black people as 'Picaninnies with watermelon smiles' and Muslims as 'letterboxes' refusing to condemn him.

The same black people and Muslims currently performing heroics in our public services, of course

Look. I get it. Brexit has taken some people to the right so they'll now turn a blind eye to stuff deemed utterly unacceptable before. Whilst indulging in whataboutery targeting the Germans or WHO to divert from corona denialists. Or the incompetence of the current cabinet. Or reports from the Murdoch - that's the Murdoch - media.

It concerns me to see someone I view as a decent bloke joining their number, my friend...

I started writing a daily diary about the virus on 19th march, including pictures and reflecting on my thoughts, what is happening personally and everywhere else. My wife called me sad for starting it but now is involved in the input. This will be for my own personal reflection but felt when asked in 20-30 years time(providing Im still around) that I have something to look back on and refer to.
