So with all the current worries over finances it’s sad to read BP moaning about the drop in oil price and having to reduce their spending plans to only 12 billion pounds this year.It really gets my goat hearing about these large companies with massive cash reserves concerned more about their profit margins.
Bring on the electric car sooner.

Well some of that is quite valid - every company should be doing their bit for the national cause currently....

But electric cars... NEVER! Well, one day obviously but whilst I can I will inflate BPs profits a bit more (or whoever makes the fuel Tesco and Sainsburys sell..) and run my V8 gas guzzler....

It's a cultural thing though, in't it Rob.

Don't we have jellied eels? Whelks, cockles and mussels? Black pudding, pigs trotters and tripe?

Then ever tried 'sweetbreads'? The crackling that's just baked backfat? Tongue, brawn or sausages wrapped in guts?

Meanwhile there's frogs legs in France, foie gras made from force fed geese, octopus in southern Europe and the disgusting catching and pickling of increasingly rare songbirds around the Med. Hundreds of thousands every year, in fact.

They're not too fussy about eating beavers and squirrels and snakes and pretty much anything else they can grab in the deep south of the States, either.

And don't get me started on the widespread yet barbaric slaughter without stunning deemed acceptable on religious grounds.

I get it, pal. The Chinese are public enemy number one 'cos of corona and being called out over their long term practices. I've no problem with that. But what I am saying is if we're gonna hold them to account let's do the same for others too.

Also to add I suppose a lot of what you list food wise comes from the same animal i.e. Pigs, Cows, and Sheep or very close relations. The whole spectrum of amphibian and reptilian species and sub species appear to be on their menu. Just to add I think the Southern Med delicacy of eating while song birds, (sometimes done under a towel I believe) I find abhorrent, but I guess you could quite rightly call me two faced for being selective about the meat I eat.
Tricky points that arnt easy to answer but I guess it boils down, forgive the pun, to husbandry and hygiene and being careful about what species we choose to devour. I can remember a Brian May interview on animal welfare and hunting when someone quoted the fox as being vermin, Brian answered, quite rightly, who on this earth, particularly humans, as the right to call any other species vermin?
As an aside I bet the Pangolins are pi..55ing themselves at the current situation, and to be honest who can blame them!

Though I disagree with the conclusion. Dunno about Italy, Hungary or Brazil but both Trump and the Tories will just lie. Again. Repeatedly. Shamelessly. Supported by a millionaire run media who'll find scapegoats for Covid shortcomings in the same way they continue to do over Brexit. And, as you say, invite indignation at others for politicising it whilst brazenly doing so themselves.

Starmer will be best advised to let 'em get on with it...

I have seen articles in New York Times and Washington Post with Bolsonaro Trump and Johnson mentioned in the same sentence when talking about their early Coronavirus response. Mind you Bolsonaro is sticking to his line which shows a remarkable tenacity

That Is the Tucker Carlson show and you really need to ask the question?

However, Taiwan is excluded from WHO to some degree, due to stupid diplomatic pressures but WHO ain’t alone. I read a great article about how Taiwan blunted the spread of Covid without any shutdown because they started checking people returning from China from just before Xmas and yet we’re told China was suppressing news of the outbreak at that time. Something doesn’t square? It also stated that nearly 1M Taiwanese work in China. Obviously business doesn’t stand aside for politics in that part of the world

I’d start watching game Channel 4 News

Sorry I have edited my post since your reply

Fox News is the biggest cable news channel in the US and is owned by Rupert Murdoch. They are the unofficial mouth piece of Trump and some of their hosts are unofficial advisors to Trump (Tucker Carlson included)

They peddle his lies and agenda, such as Coronavirus is a Democratic hoax (back in late Feb)

a quote from DEATH above... read all of it....

There is a fair clue there why he knows what he is talking about!

Channel 4, Guardian, independent, El Pais, Washington Post, New York Times, CNN and the DT

I also keep an eye on ITV, MSNBC, France 24, Sky News, Financial Times and I’d love to watch the BBC24 more, but they are too vanilla drawing (false) equivalence on just about everything

Most of these channels/sources are on Freeview, or the internet (without a paywall), although I pay a minimal charge for the Guardian, Independent and Washington Post

Be interesting to see if any invitations are offered or accepted, Rob. And is it cynical to wonder if that'll depend on Johnson's ratings? If he thinks it'd be sharing applause or blame?

Especially given this in the Mail - that's the Daily Mail: https://www.msn.com/...ocid=spartanntp

"A British firm producing millions of pounds worth of coronavirus tests is selling most of them abroad because the UK doesn't have enough laboratories to use them - as ministers were today accused of losing their grip on the crisis."

Wow.

It’s fair to say those leaders who are more capitalist have been slower to act because their eye is/ will be on the economic factors rather than social. BJ (snigger) isn’t immune from this. Trump is worse. Shock horrror tell us something we didn’t know about these men. In his defence, and as much as I don’t like defending BJ, at least he’s acknowledged his initial “herd immunity”was bollox, and his government have acted.
OK, more could be done, it always could be. Even Trump, the worst leader in the free world today was totally different in his outlook. Today, he was a different man.

But how do you deal with a virus as serious as this, when initially the data you use, from China, is now flawed?

P.S. me and thee exchanged views on the regime in China, and how it’s up to the world to deal with them in august last year, when discussing Hong Kong. We both condemned the regime, and suggested the world needed to review its dealings with Beijing.
A new hope.

I would be if dealing with someone who spoke factually and sensibly.

Your posts on this thread and your “Rochester is a toilet full of pikeys” suggest my assessment isn’t too far from reality.

Respect has to be earns. If you wish me to engage with you seriously, then don’t post such knackers as above. Post as you have on this thread and others, then why should I change my opinion of your offerings?

You work for the tube - you get stressed when you feel something incorrect is posted and call people a dick?

So on that basis- on a football forum- I work in football - should I start doing the same with most on here?
Is that how these things work now?

And I never would say anything resembling the work P**ey by the way.
Rochester I don’t like - hey that’s an opinion - but please don’t put that sort of phrase into my mouth by using “ “ ok?

Italy seems to have light at the end of the tunnel thankfully. I hope they are now on the downward curve.

I’d be interested to see what contributions to all of this the Vatican makes. Isn’t this after all an act of god?

He came across terrible but If course it was heavily edited

But I eluded to the ridicules situation in my revised post that you responded to. WHO is a UN organisation. Taiwan is not a member of the UN and is only recognised by a dozen or so countries, Paraguay is about the biggest.

So WHO are in difficult political situation over Taiwan when countries like USA and UK don’t recognise Taiwan. As I suggested in my post, China still trades with Taiwan like buggery and so do we and I suggest WHO probably has close unofficial contacts too.
