As more and more people are acknowledging there's gotta be a real reckoning after all this.

In six months time, it might be ideal for someone, perhaps Kier Starmer, to insist on a fair way forward. Not a daft, out of date Corbyn style Labour Party, but a modern, progressive real world party of proper social values that reflects the life of people in the 21st century. Where work is encouraged and fairly rewarded instead of being bullied and exploited by the likes of mike Ashley , while at the same time helping those that need it. The safety net must always be there. Close tax loop holes, everyone, from the janitor to the CEO to the hedge funds all pay the fair share and get the fair share, while at the same time encouraging everyone to take responsibility for their own lives and actions, not blaming others and taking the easy way out. Use examples such the bank loans, the pubs you mentioned, big business turning a blind eye to despotic regimes in favour of profit (were all guilty of that. Buying cheap socks and pants made in China) the premier league clubs paying millionaire players in full while laying off the barman. And so on.
A new hope.

There will be a big list of people the world should go after in my opinion when all this is over

China - the lot of it
Wetherspoons
Sports Direct
The Premier League
Any firm profiteering or not treating staff in line with government policy - the one's laying off staff/furloughing staff who don't need to or ones taking advantage of if the hefty package put in place to support the ones in need.
WHO - if they have indeed been complicit in undercooking the figures to protect China, Russia or whoever

Looking at the pictures of the Underground taken yesterday at Acton

Trains absolutely rammed, and they wonder why London is at the epicentre.

I’m sticking to one walk a day from my home where I can walk for an hour or two without seeing a soul, and these thick Londoners just out and about packed on trains spreading it

As per normal, London thinks it’s better than the rest of us

LBC's James O'Brien hosted a very interesting phone-in yesterday.

In short, huge numbers of pubs are owned by investment firms who not only demand lucrative deposits and rents but insist landlords buy their beer from them at hugely excessive rates. Of course there's a significant turnover of tennants, yet these companies don't care as long as there're folk to rep!ace them. And if not? They simply sell or redevelop.

Summat the likes of Farage conveniently fail to mention when blaming the 'nanny state' smoking ban for pubs closing.

Anyway, to no one's surprise these money men are still grabbing rents and rates from landlords regardless of the current crisis. In fact they've such influence they're pressing Sunak to pay subsidies straight to them rather than those struggling in the middle.

As more and more people are acknowledging there's gotta be a real reckoning after all this. But I'm guessing the usual suspects - those millionaire funded lobby groups such as the 'Taxpayers Alliance', for example - will suddenly reappear pleading innocence on behalf of the guilty...

This has been going on for years. It's s disgusting industry, where the breweries/owners are the only winners. The landlords start doing well and then the breweries slowly turn the screw, upping rent and the cost of the ale. The landlord tries to diversify, in order to bring in more revenue.. if successful, the rent goes up again, etc; until they landlord just can't continue to turn a decent profit/wage. They leave and the next victims come in.

I know of a couple of incidences where the landlord has staged a robbery and nicked as much cash as possible, knowing they are on their way out.

You’re like the Piers Morgan of the forum.
Why are they think Londoners?
Maybe they (well almost certainly) on their way to work- maybe they have mouths to feed, maybe they are going to work on a hospital ward, to work in a fire station, a police station, to drive a bus?

Just because that bell end has shut stations and reduced all services on transport the trains are bound to be packed.

I have been commuting and it’s busy in the mornings (well everyone gets a seat - no one standing but still not as comfortable given the circs). From midday it’s very quiet and no real issue.

You voted Tory- you voted for bleeding Johnson- yet moan at the consequences.
I bet you even clapped the NHS last week without a hint of irony

Thought it was the Mayor who was responsible for TFL?

Oh it’s only essential workers on the tube then, my mistake

Stay home and save the NHS but dumb Londoners, the epicentre can’t seem to manage this

Wasn't it Sadiq Khan who limited the tube service? I stand corrected if wrong.

He wanted to close it (then we would have had real problems)!!

Believe me the morning tubes are just people going to work- why else would they be out and about!

Looking at how clear the roads are in London, these essential workers might be better driving.

TfL answer to the mayor, not the PM. Nothing to do with Johnson. So who’s shut stations? Who’s reduced services? Khan.
A new hope.

He wanted the service to close - Johnson faffed about and it’s semi open - which of course causes congestion as people will always want to use them.

And not many will be able to drive as :-
They may not have cars (it’s very hard to get a parking space in flats on the keyworker scheme
Traffic wardens are still very active in London!

Every communication I have seen about the tube was they were striving to keep it open. Nothing whatsoever from the mayors office about closing the tube.

Remember which city I work in, and who I work for before spouting a load of knackers in reply.

He was an utter melt during Brexit as well and carried on with it all now as well. For what its worth i dont think the beer is that bad and they actually tend to have a decent selection but some of the clientele at times leaves a lot to be desired but that comes with the pricing. Generally i tend to be in on a evening if i do go in one so that side of it tend to be long gone by then having spent up.

I actually think come the other side of the virus the majority of folk will have long memories as to how companies etc have behaved during it all. A lot of places that have handled things badly from local shops taking advantage with massively marked up prices to places like the hotel chain that chucked employees out on the street may find themselves being shunned whilst those businesses that did their best to help etc reap rewards from people returning the loyalty.

What are you on about?

S&D was ranting about Londoners on the tube etc.

Usual childish reaction - just clarifying from the point of view from down here where I see it daily.
You say you live down here also?
