The real reason why the Premier League wants to complete the season is money. £762 million in rebates to the TV companies. Who would have thought it?

Teams getting promoted but none getting relegated. Four from the NL?

By my calculation that is 23 in the prem and of course Maidenhead won't be relegated

They are bonkers if they think that idea will fly

Absolutely ridiculous suggestion! Football is based on promotion and relegation not just promotion. And why promote 4 from the national League when only 2 deserve that right? Joke of a suggestion in my opinion.

Probably instigated by south shield and Vauxhall Motors both of whom were virtually guaranteed promotion.

Probably some team from Jersey as well which had actually confirmed promotion already.

Well it would be a nice away trip but knowing our luck we'd probably get the fixture on a cold Tuesday night in the middle of February.

Jersey Bulls FC and they are one of the 60 :-
https://jerseyevenin...er-fa-decision/

They've won promotion from Division 1 to the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League after winning all 27 games this season to date scoring 99 goals and condeding 7!! Apparently one of their strikers recently joined Hartlepool.

National League clubs (not all for some reason) met this morning again (virtually) to once again discuss their wishes/hopes/dreams for the rest of the season.

Decision this week I hear

Latest announcement still not helpful !
League very fearful of legal recriminations- Barrow obviously leading this way of thinking!

There was talk a few weeks ago about reorganising the whole pyramid structure from Premier League downwards, creating a regionalised structure akin to what they have in Spain and Italy. Somehow I think it would work and solve a lot of problems now, with Barrow in a league with clubs such as Morecambe, Carlisle, Blackpool, Fleetwood and other north western clubs, and ourselves in a midlands league setup with the Stags, Lincoln, Burton, Notts, Crewe, Port Vale, Grimsby et al.

Food for thought, but can’t see it happening myself

Wealth over Health etc

A larger percentage of players contracts in the NL will come to an end by the end of April but this doesn't seem to have been addressed by the powers that be.

Hypothetically, if the season is restarted in a few months time when most teams squads have been reduced significantly the teams who will be in the best position to recruit the better players at that time would be those with the best chance of promotion. Players could be attracted by the fact they could be playing in a higher league in 8 games time with the added financial bonus that their wages will be increased at the start of the new season if promotion has been achieved.

Conversely, the teams still in danger of being relegated could find it much more difficult to attract players they might otherwise be able to simply because those players do not want to be part of the dogfight and end up playing at a lower level still with the accompanying possibility of having their wages cut should their new club be relegated.

This situation would hardly be a level playing field, would not be fair competition, and, more importantly, would not reflect the season to date, recent form of clubs, nor the current personnel playing at each club.

The same scenario will be true, of course, with the EFL if the season cannot recommence until after the 30th June when a large number of players will again be out of contract.

I read it once quickly and couldn't work out how the leagues would stack up numbers-wise at all.

Well the multi-millionaires of the premiership who always argue that their inflated overpaid squads play too many games would end up with 3 more teams to play twice. Not only that but their annual income from TV rights etc would be reduced for each team because the total would be divided between 23 teams not 20. So starting at the very top, I can possibly think of half a dozen teams that might support this idea - strangely, those 3 not to be relegated and those 3 that would be promoted from the championship.

In any division, I can't think that teams currently in play-off positions would be over the moon though.

promotion from the Conference could be done by alphabetical order start of the alphabet first- or by the length of the club's name longest first - or by attendances - or by the shortest time since being in the FL - or by being in a County that starts with a D.

subject to testing, some of these sensible solutions seem fair and reasonable to me

Sounds plausible to me. Also add to the list, priority for teams who have reached at least the FA cup semi final.

I think the long-term idea is to keep promoting three without relegation until Maidenhead are in the Prem.
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

We've proposed that the town with the least straight church spire gets promoted.

Fingers crossed.
