See bo Jo has the virus. Well his social distancing worked well

Well he did bragg about shaking people's hands a couple weeks ago.

And given both his and Cummins' record 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf', anyone?

But seriously, last night's 'clap for carers' (stop giggling at the back!) was truly emotional. Though my own applause extended to everyone and anyone going that extra mile at the moment, whether they're the public sector staff so often accused of being overpaid and underworked or private sector workers making sure our fridges remain full.

Not to mention the army of volunteers stepping forward to support the above.

However we wake this morning to yet more reports from front line staff lacking essential PPE. Despite the PM standing in front of the press insisting it was stockpiled a fortnight ago. More reports from front line staff sidelined for the want of testing. Despite them being readily available for the likes of Charlie Windsor and 'honest' Johnson.

We then learn the UK snubbed an opportunity to join the EU purchase of ventilators with our exit - which of course hasn't actually happened yet - quoted as the reason why (obviously preferring the empty PR of an order placed with the pro-leave yet Singapore based Dyson instead). That excuse quickly changed to a blame shifting 'We didn't recieve the e-mail' when folk pointed out breathing must have priority over Brexit. What? Really?! What next - a Scunthorpe hacker? At which point footage emerged of health secretary Hancock not only acknowledging the buy-up, but intimating we would indeed be joining it. So either the 'Downing Street spokesperson' was misinformed or simply returning to type.

Either way I've a very straightforward message for all those joining the eight o'clock tribute after years of undermining, underfunding and privatising - our public services are for life, not just pandemics...

Because it’s much easier for the Government to give a consistent message, don’t use your car unless it’s essential and exercise from your house is not open to misinterpretation ( well it shouldn’t be anyway)

Though even after yesterday's welcome if belated support for the self employed I still witnessed blokes tarmacking and doing other, apparently non-essential work this morning. Not to mention the two meters rule being totally ignored.

I guess it's like this: just like we need to reduce our carbon footprint we now need to reduce our social footprint, too. Take every possible step to minimise our impact on both services and those around us. Even a short drive means the risk of accident. Of breakdown. Of interacting with others at the petrol station.

Then is someone's job GENUINELY necessary? Especially one that might, just possibly result in a hospital visit? Occupying already depleted staff and resources?

We could even include those odd jobs around the house that folk will now be filling time doing yet inevitably end at A&E on countless occasions.

It stinks. It's sh*t. It goes against everything we've taken for granted in the past. But I'd hate to think even an innocent action on my part led to tragedy for another...

So Chris, how easy do you think it is to implement support for the self employed? They dont have an intermediary (employers) who can pay the money, do the checks and claim reimbursement. I think they have done an amazing job to get the different options in place and ready as quickly as they have. I thought the Chancellor summed it up when he said it had to be done quickly and good was ok, excellent was too slow.

The self employed settle their own tax and their payment on account has been canned so they should have some cash available that was supposed to be for paying tax and now isnt needed for that.

Its easy to snipe but much harder to design and implement. It is something I have the joy of trying to do at work and I don't envy them one bit...

As for which jobs are critical, think its impossible to dictate and has to be left to common sense. That of course is where it all goes wrong. MY brother is a service manager for a fork lift co - you wouldn't think that was particularly critical. But they have a number of food and drink distributors on their client list who needs FLTs working more than ever now.... Tarmacing, probably not, unless of course it is for a business that is critical and it needs that roadway better for the extra traffic on it in this time of crisis...

Seen on Derbyshire Police twitter them saying they had to go out to a place near Snake Pass to break up a gathering with BBQs etc as well.

Will travellers have to abide by these rules, or will they be exempt as normal. Be interesting if they pay their annual visit to the Quueens Park.
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

The tarmacking was/is folks' drives, Ian. CBC have a subcontractor doing them round Birdholme. Then there were some lads digging roads up for 'Virgin'.

As for the self employed subsidy I'll bow to your vastly superior knowledge, my friend. And I can fully understand how open to abuse any such measures would be. In fairness I actually quite like this Sunak's straightforward delivery. Much preferable to a Johnson who always puts detail a poor second to diversion.

Either way it'll be interesting to see who pays the bill for all this. Bearing in mind the uproar from Tory backbenchers when a previous chancellor sought to align self employed NI contributions with others.

If you keep your distance from others I can't understand what it matters where you do it. Within reason that is. I drive a mile to where my boy and I go for a walk. We social distance. What is the problem?

The problem is, you shouldn't. It's being thrust upon us 24 hours a day what we should and should not be doing. Driving 1 mile or 10 miles it make no difference. Exercise should be done for one hour, locally from your home. Whether you agree with it or not, that's what you should be doing.

I noticed today that the Rozzers were tagging cars in the car park in Tapton Park, not before time in my opinion. Apparently next week they will be coming down hard on persistent offenders. "If you use a car, you've gone too far".

You really don't care do you? So you think because the Heir to the thrown distances himself from the mess in London we should all be able to flout the rules.

You're risking the lives of vulnerable people, the people that care for them and your own family. Worst thing is, you don't give a flying fexk

You talk like a toohat. I will walk to where my son can ride his bike. I am sure I am less of a risk walking along a major road to the empty space than driving there.

No I drove until I was told not to. Is it safer to walk my son there or drive him there? Why are we a greater risk driving than walking to the same place?

An accident could end up being a drain on NHS resources. These rules are not just made up to wind folk up. They have reason behind them.

Bottom line is, you or anyone else should not be driving their car to take the exercise.

It's like driving to a gym to go on a treadmill.

Accident's can happen anywhere at anytime doing anything. Better off not doing anything, anytime, anywhere. Oh forgot we can drive to work where guess what, accident's happen. Oh well I will walk because it's so dangerous to drive.

That’s nonsense of course.
Driving to a park and walking or running in a solitary fashion is the best and safest form of exercise.
I get driving from Sheffield to Staneedge Edge is too far though.

We don't go to a park, we go to a piece of waste land where he can run/ride with very little chance of meeting anyone else. However it seems driving there is deadly to all and sundry
