You mean why is the government not blackmailing businesses?

Because, erm, that would be a disgusting thing to do?

It's a period of national emergency. The public have been asked to work together, to make sacrifices, to ignore all the underfunding of the past and hypocrisies of the present and do the right thing. And many are doing exactly that.

So why not ask those who've made vast profits from shortcomings in the NHS to temporarily donate life saving facilities?

PS: as for the wider debate, a key issue arises. If the government impose an official lockdown insurance companies become liable in many areas. But whilestever they leave it up to the individual, they don't. Hmmm...

That will come shortly though as they can't enforce any lockdown otherwise

Indeed, they have completely state controlled media and the government announces as fact what it wants even if it's not the case.

Be interesting to see the world's response to them when this is over. This isn't the first virus to appear from their neck of the woods in relation to it appearing in their unhygienic and unsafe food markets, next time it could be end game. They must be held accountable and punished.

All I'm taking away from this experience, is it just cements how thick, selfish, thoughtless and ignorant people are, and how they possess the herd mentality...

Correct, but unfortunately the worse is probably still to come. When (if), we get the top side of the virus watch the racist blame/recriminations,for it spiral out of control.

When I see how this started on those Chinese markets and the harm
It’s done I find it hard not to feel racist towards the people who caused it

I guess those of you who can are now doing a lot of working from home. I regularly wfh one day a week but can't say I enjoy it...miss the office banter and the separation of home and work, and generally don't feel as productive. These next few weeks are not going to be fun...

Not as yet but suspect we will be soon. Work in IT Support for a load of smaller companies and its been bedlam last couple of days trying to get folk set up to work from home. We have the majority using Office 365 so most fine just needing an internet connection but quite a few need VPNs setting up to access networks at the office for file servers etc. Also they are finding all manner of laptops that havent seen the light of day in ages for folk to use. Now got one place taking desktops to peoples houses to use!

Well we can always count on one bloke to be ahead of that particular curve: https://www.bbc.co.u...-india-51928011

https://www.theguard...ijing-escalates

https://www.politico...onavirus-135392

So in the space of a fortnight the so called leader of the free world has gone from insisting Cvid was a hoax, to claiming it'd be over in days, to blaming the democrats, to accusing journalists of trying to infect him, to using it as confirmation the Mexican wall was necessary (presumably to protect the Mexicans as they had fewer cases at the time), to banning flights from the EU 'cos they'd supposedly acted too slowly (Euro countries were going into lockdown whilst he was still dismissing it as flu), to lying he'd had nothing to do with the closure of a department set up to address exactly what we're currently facing (despite boasting about doing so at the time) and demanding 'America first' access to a vaccine ( https://www.msn.com/...ine/ar-BB11fOSk ), to now implementing emergency laws: https://www.msn.com/...ocid=spartanntp

But hey, let's all get angry about a few folk on a Wuhan market...
