Just smacks a lot of the right on trendy ‘real’ fan bible that states you must feign pith for any league club in financial trouble, you must love AFC Wimbledon and hate MK Dons, basically any of the fans United type bull! Usually started by some hypocritical Brighton fans and a load of nonsense!
Nobody is making anybody do owt youth. Feel free to equally resent Wimbledon's fanbase - led comeback from Level 11 or thereabouts while celebrating Milton Keynes' EFL-approved carpetbagging.
I could do with an explanation of your line on Brighton fans though. I've watched a lot of non-league in recent years and Ive never felt like it was Brighton fans - sincere or otherwise -that put the idea into my head.
And as for feigning pith, well, I wouldn't know where to start because I dont know what the chuff it means.

According to Cartman, you’re not allowed to go and watch non league if you support a league club - we’re exempt because we support CFC

I just wanted to thank those Spireites fans who came to watch Matlock Town this weekend or any other non-league side for that matter to celebrate Non-league day. We saw a fantastic boost in our gate giving us an attendance of 729 and I know I saw a lot of friendly faces from Chesterfield had made the trip over which is great that our two clubs and sets of supporters can continue to share such a fantastic friendship.
It's a shame that a postponement didn't allow you to have your own game on NLD and I know you naturally want to get back into the football league sooner rather than later but I hope you are at least enjoying some new grounds and a few advantages that come with non-league football.
It's great to see your recent upswing in form and I wish you all the best for your upcoming matches. I would love for us to meet in a cup, hopefully the FA Trophy or Derbyshire Senior Cup draws allow this.
Cheers,
James Griffiths

No football, so I've spent a bit of time digging in old cupboards and what should turn up but the programme for Matlock v Scarborough at Wembley in 1975. That was some day and some performance, but in the end you have to wonder how Scarborough got away with only letting four in, and why Matlock didn't run away with the league that year. The three Fenoughty brothers, with Tom running the game from midfield, plus Pete Scott as the main striker and 'Oxo' Oxley on the wing - they were unstoppable.
One of the best games of football I've ever seen, equaled but not surpassed by Old Trafford.

Didn't Brighton invent 'Fans United' day in which they encouraged fans of other clubs to turn up and support them in their time of financial trouble?
It wasn't too long after that that they were vying for promotion with us and baying for us to be denied advancement just because we had bought a load of players we couldn't afford (not all of those having single contracts.....).

Loyalty dictated that Town fans went to Saltergate to see us beat Charlton that day.

Eyup Siberian.
I dont equate Fans United with Non League day, or with its predecessor the Groundhopper day. These last two were regional and then national attempts to redress the financial balance between one end of the game and and the other by short term injections of cash and , possibly, allowing fans to develop a longer term interest.
But.. Fans United was a good idea. We may have ended up having a spat with the club that came up with it, but it was a good idea as is anything that appeals to the better nature of football fans and highlights common problems and the value of collective power.
Cheers

I get you, and I agree. Was just trying to clarify why I thought Cartman had brought Brighton into the discussion.
The latest Non-League Football Show podcast featured an interview with the chap who thought up Non-League Day: it originated as him asking a few mates if they would be interested and snowballed from there. In that sense it has grown organically and he came across as modest and not self-interested- he still works as a train guard. I think Non-League Day is a great idea and if it attracts a few more bodies into attending (at the Proact included) then why not? It does no harm- only good.

ok, that's cleared that up. I do like their new ground though, one of the better contemporary shoe-boxes.

Yeah, I reckon it and can see why Evatt is so hacked of at missing out on it at the weekend with Barrow. I was reminded of this thing the The Northern League used to do whereby they staggered kick-offs so that fans could travel in convoys and get to several games in a day, used to put significant numbers on the gates at clubs that rarely made over 200.
