Another one, no shock at all. When anth the big guy who seems to have a hybrid chesterfield/Newcastle accent left he took his bar manager Chris and chef to the boythorpe and the Rutland went down the pan rapidly. Food seemed to stop and beer was often on the turn and there was a merrygo round of people running it. I sacked it off after one bad pint too many. Traditional pub in a central location, hope it reopens. Tbh pubs in chesterfield seem to reopen and reinvent themselves quicker than in other similar sized towns.
Really , had some good carveries in there. The bloke is an acquired taste sometimes cracking away and other times been rather rude Guess it depends on how much drink he had, seen him more drunk than punters sometimes. I think he's seconded into pubs to chase punters away and run them into the deck
Yes, Anth has moved to the Woodside
And doesn't drink much these days, he's lost about 8 stone in the last 6 months! You probably wouldn't recognise him!
Shame to see the Rutland shut, and 7s to be fair, 2 places in a decent town centre location that should be able to make a go of it if they are run properly
And I agree with your point about pubs in town, there have been many changes to names etc in the 20 odd years I've been drinking round town, in fact The Rutland was one of the few Town centre pubs left that was pretty much the same as it was when I started drinking!
