Whow just watched England perform against the team that needed complex maths to qualify for the WC

That Irish prick makes my skin crawl, he has no shame

Difficult pitch, difficult bowlers

Right...i hadnt seen a lot of Jofra Archer prior to his England games in recent days and wasnt getting involved in the should he be picked in the World Cup squad. I've now decided its a case of who is going to miss out to pick him...he's some bowler. Averaging 90.5mph so far on a miserable cold wet day in London and has it moving around whilst he's at it all with the most ridiculous languid casual action. This England ODI team probably wasnt missing much in these last couple of years but this could be the one thing it was missing.

I don't think the bowling department has been all that. It's mostly been covered up by the mammoth talented batting lineup that can chase anything.

Archer simply has to go, it's telling how all the established bowlers are grouping together trying to keep him out even if they arent saying it to that effect. I get the team trying to stick together and all but it shouldnt be a closed shop even if it's world cup season. If they feel so threatened they should play better than he does to keep him out.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

I think its hard to criticise the bowlers as we have done very well so far. Ali and Rashid complement each other well, Willey has done ok and Plunkett has carved a good career in those middle overs where we've really struggled in the past. I'm never convinced by Woakes and do wonder that he is often picked because of how good a batsman he is as well. Wood gives you that extra pace when fit but is a gamble on staying fit for the whole tournament. Tom Curran has promise but needs to be careful he doesnt become the next Jade Dernbach getting carried away with all the variations, just bowl properly and use the variations when they are needed.

Despite being the top ODI side we dont really have players that are high in the batting, bowling and all round individual charts....our strength is the depth of batting and bowling options that we have. We generally bat down to 10 if not 11 on occasions and can go in with 6 or 7 bowling options when you include Root. We could do with Roy getting back fit to open with Bairstow and go from there, Hales is a loss but he's been a dick and deserves to be dropped. Something along the lines of the side below in English conditions will do well....the issue could be like the Champions Trophy with the ICC sorting the pitches and us getting undone on some crap old wicket that turns square against someone like India.

Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Butler
Stokes
Ali
Willey
Archer
Plunkett
Rashid

Probably someone i've missed!

What was Bairstow playing at allowing his dropped catch down the leg side against Pakistan being referred to the 3rd umpire?

If he did not realise the ball had hit the ground then I reckon Specsavers beckons

Ridiculous run chase by England...cantering to knock off 358. Pakistan will have scored 361 & 358 and lost twice!

A number of the female commentators are very good on both tv and TMS and i'd happily listen to them over Mark Nicholas!! Not sure which one you are referring to mind you.

Its all ICC approved commentators for this as well so it will be awful when they start sucking up to the Indian team when they play!!

Indeed...amazing that catch of the tournament is over after just the first game.......nothing is going to surpass that.

Really good start which will remove a little bit of the pressure on the side. Had they lost then the media knives would have been out about how they would bottle it etc but the manner of the win nipped all that in the bud. Yes we didnt batter 350 etc but we batted really well to get 300+ then our bowling showed how good it is with Archer showing the reason he had to be involved even if it did mean dropping someone who had been around the side for the last few years.

The performance just showed how good a side it is....we had the likes of Archer, Plunkett and Rashid at the bottom of the batting order all of whom can bat which means unlike some sides if we do lose the odd wicket then batsmen have the confidence to keep going. We have bowling options galore with yesterdays team having 4 seamers and three spinners if you include Root who is more than capable. Then in terms of fielding i dont think there is a poor fielder in the team.

The world cup finally becomes interesting. Not been on the edge of my seat watching a match like the NZ-WI one in some time. Almost feel sorry for Brathwaite but let's call it karmic retribution for the t-20 final.

India game a good one as well, shame the Afghans couldnt hold their nerve
