The nightmare continues. I’ve seen and heard enough to seriously think we could finish bottom of this league and well adrift. The squad is simply not good enough and the idea that they’re suddenly going to start winning is becoming a pipe dream. I hope they do of course but I just can’t see it. We need solutions and we need them fast while there is still time to avoid oblivion.

Smith can fill in at right back but I doubt would be comfortable on the left, I too fear a tonking on Sunday with Maguire being suspended.

The thought of Hollis and Nelson at CB sends shivers down my spine never mind the fullbacks
Then again we were caught out by pace and surrended three free headers in the first 30 minutes last night against another appalling side so it might not matter too much

3 free headers to players as tall as Lee Shaw no less,... Embarrassing

MA points to the "age" of the side. For me the experienced players he has signed are the ones letting us down the most. Weston's game is one touch football, it's as if he daren't hold on to the ball, and his one touch can go anywhere - simply not good enough. Denton played like he'd got a blindfold on before he had a blindfold on, defender after defender manage to out jump him, manipulate him into positions where he just stupidly fouls back, he makes COG look like a speed merchant and just what was he doing with his defensive header which resulted in their goal. At HT, I heard a few saying they would bring Hines off as he holds on to the ball too long showboating in their penalty area when we have players available and the attack loses impetus. For me Hines had a decent game and plays as if he cares but I do agree, at times, he fails to deliver the simple ball whilst preferring to beat the same man twice - oh! And that free kick - did we practice that?
For me it's the kids that were here before MA that are showing up MA's signings. Rowley was my MoM, always available and hardly misplaced a pass all night, and trying to keep the game ticking over. And, Maguire had another decent game and could be well missed against Grimsby.
Barry looked great compared to Muggleton on t'other side and that says it all. Just remind me, how many goals have we scored from his long throw? He even failed to beat the first man with it several times!!! And, it took about 30 seconds for their nippy forrad to show up Muggsy's total lack of pace. Is it true that if him and Denton where to participate in a 100 metre sprint it would be a two day event?
If MA got anything right last night it was his substitutions.

To have such limited players and be organised is one thing, to be as unorganised as we are is something else altogether.
Organisation is one thing that I expected a Martin Allen side to have - he can't even manage that.
The amount of chances we gift to teams each week is absolutely criminal, we are lucky that we come up against such poor finishing each week. I fail to recall any other side doing that to us. In fact i would say most of our drawing run we have been lucky not to lose, odd game excepted.
Sunday will be another embarrassment in 3 years of complete embarrassment following this football club.

Maybe we convert Denton to a CB - he does most headed clearances at set prices anyway and he’s just as quick 😟 as our regulars CBs

But it's pretty difficult to believe Loz Maguire wants to rely on his brother's name. Have you met any human beings? What kinda competitive sportsman is going to be happy in the shadow of his brother? Maguire can and does pass. On here people have spent hours moaning about hoofball and now someone wants to get shut of the one committed passer in our defence. Bring on the suicide pills.
Grimsby have put in one good shift in weeks and you all give up. Talk about cheese-eating surrender monkeys. At least the team does keep going until the final minute even though they must know they're being rubbish.
The one reason Chesterfield will beat Grimsby (even if Nelson - who was there for all our league wins - is centre back) is simply that Grimsby will come and lose. I'm betting they can't replicate their Tramcar-thrashing and really don't know why it happened. Do you think they like the idea of going out of the Cup to the team that hasn't won since the heatwave. They'll brick it. The thing losers know how to do best is lose. And this is a game with losers at both ends.
