Barry Hubbard - thanks for everything you did for Chesterfield Football Club. Thanks for all of those times at Saltergate.
You were a dignified gentleman, you supported the club.
I even remember you helping out in the club shop.

We didn’t appreciate you and your commitment and real decent behaviour and above all the respect you had for the fans.
You knew what this club meant to the fans and you would never have let this happen because you were a successful human.

The club now is im afraid a complete shadow of what it was under your leadership.
We could never have imagined this level of failure under your leadership.

Also, thank you for lying to Dave Allen about funding, or the lack of, for our new stadium.

I did. Many times I asked for CFFS to sell to Barry for a nominal fee.

Sadly BH thought his associate was an honourable man, and surrounded himself with honourable men, when historians will show how far that is from the truth
A new hope.

No lyingbinvolved, if you're spending ten million quid of your own money then I'm sure you'd do your own maths and due diligence on a project that size. Oh wait, where have I heard that before?

He clearly didn't, the shortfall in costs was due to the land not being worth what he thought it was and as a result he had to cough up an extra two million.

I do hope that in the fullness of time, Barrie's widow, Janet will go on record about the repayment of her loan and how she was recently approached by a club director concerning the Brealey takeover.

As for the land (Saltergate) a certain person, allied to DA, apparently took over negotiations with developers, kicking into the long grass the ultimately higher offer already on the table at the time.

As for the Hub, a certain person apparently told DA of many promises of grants and leasees which did not materialise.

I did hear that D & S. S Coxon had signed an agreement that they would receive 1% of the sale price of Saltergate if it was sold to Strata Homes or any associated company.

It is a fact that residential land values fell and the costs of constructing the stadium rose over the "Take over" talks period.

So the move costs went up. DA was therefore asked for more money.

We will never know why DA got involved I for one never bought the get us into the Championship and sell out for a profit speel.

There are plenty of bigger Championship clubs or ones with more potential than we could ever be.

My guess is vanity and pride, he had left Wednesday on the buyers terms and villified by the fans, we were an opportunity to show he could run a succesful football club.

He did, until he found the cost of doing so un acceptable, he wanted others to match his financial input, but have little or no say, they could not.

The rest is history and I am sure lots of people would have lots to say.

Hindsight shows Barry sold the clubs soul for a new ground.

Lee's proposal was awful, a pathetic toytown ground in amongst other bigger interests. The ground, development and backing that Allen originally saw into was excellent. The people of Chesterfield supported the venture fantastically, the issue is what has happened since, Turners input, Carsons input, the despicable events that seemed to follow, the involvement now of screnshotters etc ...Why it's gone this sour is the million dollar question, not the initial set up.
East stand second class citizen.
