Skybet favourite now Allen at 5/4, though Betvictor have him at 5/1 and Sheridan still their favourite at 1/2.
These go to eleven.

I understand he's turned down the Salford job

Do people really believe Sheridan would be a good choice? Trying hard to understand what his credentials are, especially at non league level??

There is a reason he was sacked here previously! So, genuine question....why do people think he would be a good choice?

IMO he is the best we can hope for by a distance, his stock is realistically higher than us after the job he did at fleetwood

Yes, but this is the thing....Fleetwood were League 1, we are Non League....big difference! Does he have the experience & knowledge at non-league level? Because this is going to take a different kind of management to make an impact in non-league.

Hey, if he is appointed & has the same gung-ho style of..they score 6 & we'll score 7, then great.....but does that type of style work in non-league?

Opposing teams will see us as big time charlies in this league & it will be their cup final for 80% of teams in the league & give that extra 20% to win...making it doubly harder for us.

We need a manager that has the mentality to drive the players mentality - does Shezza have that? again, genuine question!

No it doesn't.
I'd back Sheridan. He's a very good judge of whether a player is trying and he gives very simple instructions.

Sheridan's CFC side that won promotion really put the bounce into the Proact (or B2Net) playing exciting attacking football.

Yes, he then got off to a bad start the following season in L1 but subsequently did well at Plymouth, Torquay, Oldham and, recently, saved Fleetwood's season.

Now, what about the other contenders? Has Allan achieved anything other than at Barnet? Curle had issues with young players at Mansfield!! The Salford double act have done nothing above the league below. King Kev would be a huge risk. Rotherham's Ronnie last achieved at Rotherham a long time ago. Nicky Law has his doubters but he would be acceptable for me only because of what he achieved at Alfreton. Graham Alexander would be higher on my list than he is on that of the bookies. Yet, Chris Snell's Money doesn't seem to have been laid on at the bookies either!!

So, out of interest, who is highest on your list?

Newport not Torquay.
Allen won League 2 with Gillingham.

I was particularly vocal about Sheridan and believed that he was good for us. I wouldn't be too upset if he came back to us, I do believe that it would be a step in the right direction along with a bit of a statement of intention by the board to put the recent on field wrongs right.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Not really a bad start, a bad season (apart from the JPT)...we got relegated! So there is an additional 4 clubs he has been at within 4 years....what does that say? That is what is making me question the need to get Sheridan back.
I personally do not have a someone high on my list, as all the 'contenders' have attributes that make you think they could make a success of it.
One thing for sure, it HAS to be an experienced manager & for me someone with knowledge & experience of non-league.....but thats my view! Which narrows it down to 3!
Moore, Law & Allen.....not in any preferred order!

Any idea whether he had different assistants at all those clubs?

An inspired or creative choice would be just the tonic. Whitaker? Holden?

As pointed out elsewhere Shez has achieved a better win ratio with each successive move. He wouldn’t be a bad choice, but I’d prefer Law cos he’s a no nonsense leader, knows non league and should be able to find good young players as he’s been scouting for Burnley. Pretty sure it won’t be Law though. Allen might be ok. Don’t want Purple Ronnie, think he’s getting too old.

I'm not disputing there is a difference between the National League and the Football League but we are talking League 2, not Championship or moving into the Premier League.
Large parts of what we'll get next year is just like what was witnessed this season. We saw some awful footballing sides who were physical and made it a battle. The way of competing with sides who adopt this style, which will no doubt be the majority next season but it was a high percentage this season, is the same.

IMO Sheridan and Allen are as good as we could hope for at this current time as I think they both have the no-nonsense approach to their players and will ensure anyone coming into the squad is of the right mindset to knuckle down.

I'd be happy with either but if I had to hang my hat on one, I think I'd plump for Allen as it really would be a fresh start with a brand-new man.

Does Shez know the non-league? I remember we got stuffed by Alftreon in a pre-season friendly in our first year in League 2.

I don't mind Allen, but how can they let him bring in a no.2 when the apparent lack of a no.2 next season is the reason JL left.

Jack left because he was well and truly out of his depth.
The new manager and number 2 will be much much cheaper than Jack en his cronies were
