I thought Dodds showed more energy yesterday than in his previous appearances for us

Not that it would be difficult mind you :windup

Not difficult, as you say, but that was his best game for us to date.

However, like most players this season, he didn't impose himself on the game or dictate play in any way. He just did what he did when he had to.p

Thought Dennis was poor, again, but did well in setting up Barry for the run which resulted in our goal. Barry was a very willing runner yesterday but just relies on his pace and doesn't seem to have a trick in him.

Yes, if it's a choice between Smith and Dodds who goes then for me it has to be Smith to keep. Dodds doesn't impress.

Here's the problem any incoming manager will have: unless the budget is increased it's almost totally consumed by players currently under contract.

Or so I'm led to believe.

Which is why we will do well to avoid another relegation. Some major off loading needs to doing to achieve even mid table.

Suspect we will be allowing players to be transferred for next to nowt just to get them off the books.

Dennis will as expected be sold , what will that free up 2500 a week? And what would we get 150k , transfer fee?

6 loanees going back

Wiseman moved on
Dodds and Smith if rumoured with release clauses
Hird released

Can’t see us getting 150k, be more like 50-80k. Hird willl also leave along with a few more like Weir and Wiseman.

I’d expect to see one or two of the OOC players training with us (Talbot, Evatt maybe) with a hope of getting a new deal after the squad trimming starts to take shape.

In that case, it's no longer worth bothering, is it??. Someone should point this out to Dave Allen in no uncertain terms: We will be relegated again unless something is done. I have a contact who spoke to Salford's scout who was there yesterday. He said the majority of Chesterfield's players would struggle in the conference - including the two centre backs, they were borderline at best - not my word, his.

If we accepted 75k in January why do you think we will get 150k now when everyone knows we are skint?

I thought the word was £170k in January.

Anyway, Dennis will be sold to the highest bidder for whatever we get and based on January's interest I don't think there were a queue of clubs after his signature. His performance yesterday did nothing to enhance his value either.

For what it's worth, if COG has gone that's a reputed £200k off the payroll. The loanees, Ramsdale, Nelson, Reed, Brown, Kellett, Motley-Henry, should provide another saving but I wouldn't think more than say £100k. However, Wiseman, German, Brewster etc will be returning so any contributions to their wages we were receiving will now be lost. Dennis's wages might save another £75k. Add to that the wages of Evatt, Hird, Weir, Parkin, Brownwell, Coke and the player who has a free transfer clause in his contract etc of possibly £325k and in total there might be a budget saving of £700k in players wages.

I suspect that falls something like 500k short of what's required before we start signing players unless I am drastically on the low side of wages being paid to players.

I thought Wiseman was decent just had rushes of blood and bad decisions at times. I would have tried him in midfield.
