Vaughan has actually said he'd be astounded if Lehmann had any knowledge of what was going down.

They spent time together at Yorkshire and says he's not that sort of guy.

Yeah Lehmann is an Aussie and has to shoulder large part of the blame for the odious culture that has befell the current squad, but I don't think for one minute that DL would condone cheating or ball tampering.

Lehman is an adopted yorkshire pudding and dont forget puddings are never wrong :windup

I'd be astounded if he didn't know. Others are obviously involved and they are covering up.

Crying for the sympathy card, f em. Probably crying cos they know how much it's going to cost them in cold hard cash

should ban all the team from cricket. cant believe all the players didnt know so they are all complicite.

before we get on our moral high horse though all cricket teams are probably up to it to varying degrees. whrtr theres money involved there'll be cheating.

Folk who know much more about it than me are saying there's been an ugly environment around the Aussies for a while.

Way beyond simple 'sledging'.

And I can't believe bowlers handed a newly scuffed ball didn't notice something wrong.

Fact is it doesn't matter who's behind this as they're all now tarred with the same brush and anything they've won recently is devalued.

Meanwhile the sight of supposedly tough blokes blubbing because they've been caught...pathetic.

Out of Lehman, Smith and Warner I thought the coaches tears looked genuine whereas the other two forced them.

Agreed, seems to me Lehman has been stitched up by Warner.

Lehman was composed but red and wet eyes speaking with genuine, but controlled emotion, the other two reminded me of criminals who incriminate themselves with crocodile tears, forced audible sobsand breakdowns that wouldn't have been out of place at the funeral of a loved one. Pathetic!

Ever since Warner came onto the International scene, announced with the assault on Joe Root, he seems to have been a very powerful and obnoxious figure in the Australian team. For me it's no coincidence their apparent descent into an unruly mob over the last few years has coincided with his inclusion then promotion to vice Captain.

Little bit of me has some sympathy for Bancroft. Situation stinks of the experienced players cooking up the plan and lining the new lad up for the fall knowing he is unlikely to stand up to the older heads as he’s looking to make a career on test cricket.

Surprised you've not mentioned that Bancroft played for one of the "elite" County league sides Denby!!
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.

Yes he did, opened the batting there with a lad I played at clay cross with for quite a while. He did really well at Denby and the lad I know talks highly of him as a decent lad. Be interesting to see if they leave the signed framed Australia shirt hung up in their pavilion.

Sad to see that Clay Cross have effectively folded with Clay Cross Works going down to one team

Allestree have also pulled their 1st Team

Applications from Hundall, Holinsend, Ashford in the Water and Whittington Wanderers to join the DCCL in 2019

Holinsend? Odd.

I get the feeling lots of cricket clubs struggle more than ever now.

Allestree were struggling last year, lost a couple of their young lads, then their top run scorer decided he didn't wanna play anymore, followed by a couple more leaving midseason and then capt & VC leaving over the winter.

Thought Hollinsend would go SYSCL rather than DCCL tbh. They are only taking their 1st out of 3 teams which I found odd.

Us & Whit Wanderers are taking both, Ashford only have 1 team (Best teas in the league though)

Seen a few leagues have moved their 1st round of fixtures to the middle of September now because of the bad weather so that the season starts a week later.

Doubtful the YDCL will be forward thinking enough to do the same. Any news from DCCL?

They must be more northerly than the alternatives.

doesn't always work like that, one year there was Darley Abbey (south side of A38) in 4N and Allestree (north side of A38) in 4S

We’ve lost Allestree from our division making it 11 teams. Sad to see clay cross go after the times I had there, strangely finishing fourth in div 1 just missing out on promotion was the worst thing that happened as it led to 3/4s of the team leaving for one reason or another. Good chunk of them tapped up to play elsewhere for money.

Risley is north of the a38 and whilst they sort of use the a38 as a dividing line the fact it’s near the m1 will be a factor. From holmewood it’ll be a doddle to get too, probably quicker than likes of breadsall and the same will be the case with ockbrook.

Seen some chat about trying to get the dccl to love games but it ain’t going to happen. Unless it can be done fairly for all teams in all divisions then it’s not feasible. Take ashover for example, we can’t have the ground on Saturdays in April or September so we’ve already had to rearrange a number of games for both dccl teams. That plus no allestree means we finish on 1st sept currently. We also have two Mansfield league teams so it leaves very few, if any, Sunday’s to love games too as we can’t push back into September. Suspect a number of 3rd/4th teams who play on outgrounds or share grounds will have similar issues. It’ll be annoying to lose games especially as I’ll not play in August at all as we had allestree first week in August so no game then I miss next three on holiday

Shame about Allestree, I've toured with them for 3 years now and played a couple of presidents day games for them as well. Good set of lads.

Once they started to struggle it was going to be difficult...lot of clubs in a small area around them arguably with better grounds and setups that are probably more appealing to new players. They relied on a few lads to do most of the batting/bowling and once they left it was a big issue. Noticed Layton played late on in the season again so be interesting to see if rolls up in their team at some point or elsewhere.

If he turns up anywhere it'll be at Allestree I'd have thought.
