Think she was golden boot winner at the time she was dropped which makes me think personally it wasn't owt to do with her performances (and clearly her reaction to a crude and thoughtless joke wouldn't be a valid reason to drop somebody, so if that was the case it'd show Sampson to be a bell end regardless).

Agreed on the 'bell end' part.

Though being the best/most talented doesn't always mean you should be in the side. Kevin Pietersen, Le Tissier being good examples.

It isn't unless you're pointing out to Sampson that he was wrong to make the ebola comment because white people can contract it too.

Unless I've misinterpretation it.
I'm saying black, white or polka dot people can contract Ebloa. So, I'd say it was an insensitive comment to make. Unless he is a raving racist. If he had passed his comment and added "because your black" on the end, fair enough, racist.

My mate went to Italy the other week, I said "you'll be stuffing your face with pizza, pasta and red wine"
Does this make me a racist towards Italians and fattist against my mate?

I think things can be said and peoples interpretation can become clouded.

Or, if her parents lived in Halifax, and he'd said: hopefully they won't bring foot and mouth (during the crisis) over with them...then what, anti-Yorkshire?

Some people just want him to be a racist, that is very apparent. If he was a true racist, she would not have been in the team, full stop.

Agree. She still took the 80k...

Working in football, I can tell you she wouldn't last five seconds in the male game. Banter/pi$$ take, whatever you want to call it, is rife!

I remember sitting down with a player to discuss his needs and the gaffer walked in and said..you in here again you fat cnut! Maybe you should stop eating so much fried chicken! The player in question is black. He just laughed and called him a pr1ck under his breath.

Golden boot or not, she had a shocking first touch; kind of demonstrates the standard of the women's game.

Oh dear

The only person who knows if he meant it in a racist way is Sampson himself. We don't/won't know either way. I can see why Aluko may have interpreted it a racist comment.

If that level of 'banter' has been established it's fine. Me and one of my mixed race mates mock black/white culture all the time cos it's established we don't care or take it seriously and have that mutual understanding. Clearly it hasn't been confirmed in this case hence why it was a stupid thing to say.

Another thing I'll say - how many people commenting on here are of any colour bar white? I'll go for one - CPS, am I wrong? Who are we to determine how apt a reaction is from somebody who is black to a comment which could be interpreted as prejudiced bearing in mind we will have almost certainly have received no prejudice for our skin colour throughout our lives? Comes across as very obnoxious in my opinion.

'Elderly white men decide how appropriate black woman's reaction to racially-motivated comment is' lmao jesus this board's became a parody of itself

I agree it was an insensitive comment, but clearly using common sense you can understand that it was racially motivated. Do you think he would've said that to a white player with a white family? He obviously wouldn't have.

No it doesn't make you racist because Italy isn't a race and saying that somebody will be going to a country and eating common dishes from that country isn't at all comparable to saying you hope that a players family don't bring over a deadly disease from their country of birth. This shouldn't need explaining dude.

We will just say it was insensitive.

Thanks for putting me straight on Italy, I thought I might be handing my mate £80K for my jibes.

Agree with most Goku.

Just out of interest, how many white people have made comments that have been made innocently but perceived as racist because they've been made by a white person? I do think white people may have at some point received prejudice purely because of their skin colour.

I agree with your point regarding establishing acceptable boundaries to conduct conversation, as with yourself and your mate, but I would be astonished if a comment made by a white person to, say, a black person has never been perceived as racist purely because it has come from the mouth of a white person when the same comment from a black person would not cause any concern.

For what it's worth, I'm fully behind every form of racism bring stamped out as there is absolutely no place in modern society. I do however feel that some people are keen to use claims of racism for their own personal agenda which makes a mockery of genuine cases.

No, we will say that it was insensitive and racially motivated, because it was.

Additionally, for the 'PC world gone mad' amoebas, Katharine Newton's report concludes that Sampson "did treat Aluko less favourably than he would have treated a player who was not of African descent". She concluded that he wasn't racist but appears to have difficulty judging appropriate boundaries when engaging in 'banter' with players, like I said previously. Aluko says she was also requested slash demanded to put out a statement saying the FA was not institutionally racist - and you people think the issue is with her and not Sampson/the FA?

Ignorance running wild.

This sort of comment is what I'd expect from an ignorant and unintelligent fool- I'm sure you're not that?

What PC to find harassment and racially sensitive language unacceptable?

Doesn't make you racist to Italians at all. They'd just think you were thick.

As someone who has taught in a secondary school, where the majority were Pakistani Muslims (they aren't, they are English...but that's another argument), racism against white kids and white teachers was commonplace.

Crackers, pinkies, honkys, kuffars...were regular insults. I just found it tedious but I wasn't remotely offended. Several white kids complained but nothing was ever done (that I know of).

However, as soon as I mentioned Allah...I was being blasphemous and derogatory (I wasn't), and ended up in front of a review panel 😃 institutions are now sh.i.t scared of anything that might be deemed even slightly racist; except if it's against white people...because then it doesn't matter.
