The thread isn't about the best ever town goal.

Sadly,as usual most threads go off on a completely different tangent.

I chatted to Dave in the restaurant yesterday as I was a guest of the Moss family.

I found him to be a thoroughly pleasant and likeable bloke who spoke well of his time at CFC,although that was sadly cut short by injury.

Also had the pleasure of Andy Kowalski,Colin Tartt and Bob Newton on my table.

Bob as always was Bob.

First time I've chatted with Andy and I'd only met Colin once a few years ago when I bought his Anglo-Scottish Cup Winners tankard off him.

All three were great to chat to and as past team mates off Ernie all have readily agreed to contribute towards Ernie's Biography.

Colin's tankard is now on display in the clubs trophy cabinet.

He was amazed that I remembered that goal.

Don't believe him! He'd be more amazed (disappointed) if you didn't.
He knows how good that strike was and I'm pretty sure it's his favourite strike of his career.

All three were in the centre of the pitch shortly before the kick off, walking out with Ernie and his family.

For folk of an older generation, Colin is a regular on the golf course at Chesterfield Golf Club, but has little to no interest in football. Andy does come to quite a few matches, and is still working full time in the pensions and annuity business.

A few weeks ago my daughter attended the 150 th anniversary dinner at the Proact, she text me and said that she was sat next to a ex footballer called Dave Waller and did I know him(she's 19)Being one of my favourite town players I told her about him and how much I enjoyed watching him play, the upshot is that Dave took time out before kick off yesterday to find me in my seat in the East Stand and have a chat with me and pose for a couple of photos.
With the result it made it a perfect day.

One of my all-time favorite players chased every ball down top man

Seeing Bob 'play to the crowd' in the away end was funny, even a little cringe worthy.

To my recollection, he wasn't announced to the crowd so many would have wondered who he was.

I can confirm Colin's lack of interest from chatting to him a few years back after one of the reunion evenings, when I asked him, knowing he still lived in town how often he watched us, he was very honest in admitting he didn't and had no interest apart from events where he caught up with his old mates. This came as a surprise as he was very enthusiastic as a player

What a player... First started watching Town when he was banging in the goals in the Kop end. One of my all time favs with Norris, Lester and Bruno.

My hero.....gave me my first migraine when he scooped the ball from going out & curled in a beauty to beat Halifax 4-3

He said on Saturday that he'd only been to three Town games in the last 20 years.

When I purchased his Anglo Scottish Cup Winners tankard,he confessed to using it to keep pens and pencils in.

Fair enough I suppose, just a job for him, wasn't he a PE teacher returning to this after he finished playing ?

It's great when you hear that a player who was a hero to your younger self is actually a top bloke too.
These go to eleven.

I seem to remember seeing a quote saying don't meet your heroes because you will be dissapointed.

You won't be if your hero was Dave Waller - Absolute top bloke.
We are all town aren't we ..................

One of my early heroes was our very own psycho Dave Caldwell. I missed out on meeting him when he was a guest of Torquay when a good few town fans were in their end and hospitality. I reckon he'd be an interesting character to speak to. Always remember his pass back from the half way line without looking which led to a goal for the opposition, he could be brilliant one minute and an idiot the next.

Wasn't that at Halifax where Steve Norris, then with them, nipped in to score after rounding the keeper or is my memory playing tricks ?
