Nathan Abbey,Ronnie Tilsed & Mark Gayle don't even get close to the worst on a goals conceded per match average.

The rock bottom ten in the last 50 years being: 1.Olie Soderburg,2.Mike Astbury,3.Mark Goldring,4.Ben Williams,5.Malcolm Brunt,6.Torsten Stuckman,7.Brian Arblaster,8.Trevor Carson,9.Carl Muggleton,

10.John Osborne.

Before anyone asks the best were: 1.Alan Stevenson,2.Mike Pollitt,3.Billy Mercer,4.Alan Humphreys,joint 5.Mark Beasley/Steve Ogrizovic.

You've got to be joking Osborn at number 10. My order of good keepers we have had:- Gordon Banks, Sam Hardy, Ray Middleton, John Osborn, Alan Stevenson, Ron Powell, Jim Brown, Steve Ogrizovic, Chris Marples. Other good keepers from this area Bob Wilson (Arsenal) John Lukic (Leeds & Arsenal).

For Hardy & Middleton you would need to see some of the very old Pathe News Reels of the time & read what their respective team supporters thought of them.

Ron Powell was one of the smallest keepers ever, although he was officially listed as 5feet 10inches he was in actual fact only just a little above 5feet 8inches Teddy Davison didn't like to give the impression he was that small & opted to give the average height of the team as Ron's height so as not to give the opposition an aerial boost, however, Ron was more than capable of looking after himself in mid air challenges often punching the ball with his right fist & the opposing forward with his left. He kept the trainers busy in his time with us.

Not joking mate, statistics say his goals per game ratio make him where he is in the list.

That does not however mean I'm saying he's one of our worst goalies,by the way statistics also put Gordon Banks well down the list as well.

Sadly a lot of very good keeper's at CFC played in quite poor sides defensively.

Also as they say statistics can basically say what you want for example Barry Roche's goals/games ratio is better than Gordon Banks, however there's no dispute which was the better keeper.

Ron Powell was the first keeper I can really remember playing for town

He signed from Man City and apart from a short spell when Gordon Banks was first choice before he signed for Leicester Ron played for over 10 years for the town

His career was finished when he broke his leg in the car crash that killed centre forward Ralph Hunt and injured Doug Wragg and Peter Stringfellow

I'd have thought Steve Cherry and his replacement Mick Leonard might have got a mention amongst our better keepers.

Conceded 1.111 goals per game.

Alan Stevenson conceded 0.846.

Tommy Lee 1.193.

Mick Leonard comes at 12th place with 1.28.

Steve Cherry just in front with 1.2.

The late Marton Fulop was a brilliant keeper for his few games on loan.

Not surprised to see Billy Mercer up there. We were so tight at the back in those days. Didn't exactly go crazy on the scoring front but what I'd do for a Mercer, Williams and Dyche in our squad right now.
