You can donate 12 months after having a tattoo. No the real reason for the numbers is that the majority of people are too selfish to give up 1 hour of thier precious time every 3 months but they expect to the blood to be there if god forbid they need it. 4% of the nation donate 6% can't and 90% won't. Every one who can donate but can't be bothered should be ashamed of themselves

Yes but the amount of bleedin tattoos the people nowadays seem to be getting (to be oh so individual)! Means they get them regularly.

I mean who doesn't need a Celtic band or some vacuous Latin phrase on their body?

Yeah, have to agree, your posts in this thread have definitely made me more aware of my need to donate. I did it a few weeks back and have another appointment booked for later this year at the Proact, so well done for advocating for this.

Pity most people on this board and nationally don't feel the same. I don't know how to many times you have been donated but every time you have you by have saved or improved at least one life every time. Well done

My son turns 17 in just over a week and has expressed an interest in donating, so going to get him book in asap.

In fairness at 17 he could probably book himself one

We all went at 6 form. It was just the done thing amongst most people in our small village. At 17 everyone booked their first driving lesson and went to the next blood donors when they came.

Then 18 it was pub and bookies.

I gave my first donation on my 17 the birthday. The best most fulfilling things I have done other than Parenthood. 1 hour every 3 months to save a life. It doesn't get any better. You lot who can't be bothered don't know what you are missing. Still waiting for a credible reason from those that can donate for not donating. Anyone got one?

I went a few weeks ago and had a chest infection so they sent me home. I then rebooked and went last Sunday but I'd not eaten that morning so was sent home again, can't defend myself, I went out got drunk Saturday night and hadn't eaten since 13:30 Saturday when I rocked up at 10:30 on the Sunday at the proact. Blame town winning.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll rebook this weekend and actually get it done this time.

It really seems to help hit home just how much you are helping when they send you a text saying where your blood has been issued. I think that was a great idea.

My last 4 have been Leicester Royal, Hull Royal, Leeds General and University College Hospital London, so you are not always helping locals, you are helping whoever needs it.

*edit forgot to mention. If any blokes make an appointment for their next time when actually donating, they base it on the women's donation frequency of 16 weeks. Men can donate every 12 weeks. Over a period of time you can get another few more donations in if you book online or via the app.

I have just been to a belated awards ceremony for 100 donations. The Transfusion representative who gave a speech came up with some numbers related to the group of donors there on the day. The numbers astounded me. A total of 10750 donations and 39700 lives saved. It never dawned on me that just 100 or so people could have such an impact. If only more people would donate. Hey Goku you still giving?
