You are Ashley and/or Caldwell......If it had all been signed and sealed but the lad said he had made a mistake and his heart was not in it after getting back from the tournament, would you have insisted he still came? Course not.

If the Brooks loan was a term conditional in the sale of Evans, we could then be claiming compensation from SUFC. Presumably it wasnt. Thats the major potential error.

In a nutshell. If the lad didn't want to come, no manager would insist. From memory, it's happened before but I can't remember the player. It might have been Sheridan that ripped the paperwork up. This is about compo or nowt.

COLUMN: On the David Brooks saga

http://www.derbyshir...-saga-1-8619431

This is a player as yet unproven in the FL and, quite possibly, who'd have been subject to calls for him to go back to Yorkshire after a month or two of ordinary performances.

However.

It just doesn't add-up that Wilder, the manager who'd watched Brooks train with the first team for much of last season, would suddenly seek a second opinion. Then of course the embarrassment suffered by CFC is the result of relying on loan deals instead of securing permanent signings - deals trumpeted by Ashley Carson in a rather desperate bid to court the favour of the fans.
Never underestimate the stupidity of people

To help us further, you should have made them stand up for a mug shot against a height chart. There again perhaps not, as it would kill all the debate.

Agreed. The club are just as much at fault here. They came out and said they wanted the transfer dealing done and dusted quickly. So why then do we go for a player who's team aren't ready to sign paper work to let him come here? And honestly, did no one at the club think it suspicious that United were stalling until after an international tournament? We are a small club in a poor league, and it was fairly obvious that if he had a half decent tournament there was no way they were going to loan him here, but no we played the small obedient lapdog to them and ended up losing out. We should have demanded they reciprocate the paperwork or just moved on to the next target, our club is the one that matters, now we've lost a lot of time in which decent replacements may have already gone elsewhere and hurt our own chances.

Agreed but it is was not rocket science as to what would happen if Brooks played well in Toulon and the paperwork for the loan was not signed and sealed beforehand

That is to any club apart from us of course

But any agreement in writing to loan him to us would have been pretty useless, as they could have still recalled him, under EFL rules, before the window closes to the end of August.

Ha, that's my copy for tomorrow morning's Star. The perils of combining web and print work. Cheers for the heads up!
