Ivan Hollett? I can just remember him. A big lad up front who did not take any prisoners (if I remember right)?
Tom, Dan and David were good. Also I liked Albert Holmes.

Give over Hindon was a fat has been.
Ogrady would be a good signing , a focal point up top and he puts in a shift

I'm talking the situation. Other offers etc. We are in a good position blah blah.

We could be being used as a vehicle to up his kudos.

I never mentioned anything about his ability compared to higdon.

Agree would be a good signing.

Yes agreed on that.
Sometimes we shoot ourselves in the foot by naming players before we've got the signing over the line.
Suppose the club can't win, we want to know who we are after yet leave the door open for other clubs to beat us to it

OK but the leak is out there in the press which alerts other clubs

Dead-ball situations are very important in today's game. Having someone who can make a throw-in as dangerous as a free-kick can be very useful. The attributes you describe have been missing from our game for some time and could add an extra dimension to our game.

Similarly, it seems GC is trying to increase the average height of the team with his signings to date and those currently being suggested.

We have lacked height for years. We've had the odd big player but generally our teams have been relatively small compared to the opposition

For Halifax, from what I have seen, Sinnott takes every dead ball kick, every corner - from left and right. His delivery was excellent. In that respect at least he is very similar to Dan Archer. In addition he has a tremendous long throw and anything in the last quarter, left and right, he threw it into the box. This was from watching about 45 minutes of semi-final and final play-off games. The attributes I mention are easily reproducible at League 2 level without doubt. Time will tell about other aspects - he can pick a pass but will have less time ; he didn't look particularly dynamic from the bits I saw (neither was Dan) ; the highlights didn't show much to base his defensive qualities on. He was involved in most of the best offensive play of Halifax and attacking play is what highlights concentrate on so his all round game was difficult to form an opinion on

For those who remember Dan then, a very similar style I would say - the caveat being, until we've seen him more, at 2 leagues lower.

I'm struggling to get him into the team though. Even if O'Grady doesn't sign it demonstrates Caldwell's thinking. My guess, with one more key signing at CF is .........

Anyon
Wiseman, Evatt, Maguire
McGinn, Nolan, Hird, Rowley, Donohue
xxxxx, Dennis

Subs from: Lee/Parkin, Barry, Brooks, Ugwu, Dimaio, Simmons, Mitchell, German, Sinnott

Critical to any success in my opinion is Evo's fitness and leadership qualities.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

The players agent will happily alert other clubs to his availability and what other offers are on the table regardless of what local media or message boards put out there, for once I agree the club are in a bit of a no win situation. The fact we've said we've made an offer to a nameless player will have no impact whatsoever on whether he actually signs for us or not.

That squad looks awful, don't think we'd line up like that at all. At least I'd hope not.

Big Ivan was one of my favourite players, superb with his head, but he didn't play in the '69-70 season when we won Div.4 title - he lost his place to Ernie and was transferred to Crewe the previous season. IMO Albert Holmes and Gerry Sears were perhaps our strongest ever full-back pairing, although I think Albert Phelan had replaced Gerry Sears by 69/70 season - and Albert would never have got away with some of those slide tackles nowadays!

By "brano working hard" does that mean thumbing through the pages of his contacts in his address book or actually talking to folk from other walks?

At the time Higgins had just had a season in the Dutch premier league where he had an almost one in two strike rate. The season before that he was vit d footballer of the year in a Scotland.. difficult to therefore to day he was a has been but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Not surprising he became a recluse in Surrey, although you didn't need hindsight to predict he would go on to win our pre-season raffle

Because clubs will offer him more money than we can and why would he want to play in league 2 when league 1 clubs will be in for him
