I know there's a pressure applied to season ticket sales with good news being spread, but sometimes no news is better. If none of these offers for the five "very, very good players" aren't accepted then GB becomes the shiniest, newest tool we have at CFC.

Agree, can't help but feel this is a cynical ploy to get season tickets sold. It's probably like Evans at Mansfield, saying your after big players, offering measly sums for them that get rejected, then come out saying at least we tried to get them and that should be enough for you to part with your money.

And yeah once again this bluster about getting business done early has now been put under the microscope with our own head of recruitment saying its a slow process. Not that I like to use them as an example but Mansfield have already acquired 2 decent players in Logan and Diamond so it can be done early.

I can envisage a scenario where again we will end up paying over the odds for rubbish as we panic with the window about to close.

Its a bit of a lucky dip even with good scouting of them as to how they take to proper league football. Its a market we have done well with over the years but you do have to expect the odd poor one here and there. If you consider the Hitzelsperger one as an example....the story was we only got him to keep Stefan Moore company who was the one we really wanted who turned out not that great whilst Hitzelsperger was really good for us and went on to have a very good career.

Whatever happens, we need a damn good coaching team cos we're gonna have a group of players that don't have much football league experience. We need people that are gonna get the best out of these kids and non league players

Roy Mac had a talent of finding the right type of loanee more often that not, and he didn't have a shilling to spend. If Caldwell had half the skill then we could get excited about the possibilities, unfortunately he seems to not even have a tenth.

He also had a reputation for nurturing young talent.

I'd doubt GC et al will ever get such a reputation, indeed the last 5 months have been disastrous on that front.
