Personally, I wouldn't give Gardener a contract to cut my flicking lawn, if we keep him for next season we'll be playing non league in two years time

I'm with you. I'd rather invest his wages in someone with a little more consistency.

So, GC has to sign players "with a little more consistency". That should prove interesting as his record so far is 6 out of 6 for consistency.

That's if one accepts consistently poor as being the answer. I really wouldn't give this guy next year's budget to blow before he continues with his boring no-shots tactics, fall-outs with players, and non-acceptance of any blame after every defeat before he finally has to be shown the door at something like the same cost as it would be if he went today.

In the past I've accused a few of knee-jerk reactions: describing the 3rd game of the season as 'must win', wanting to sack a manager after 3 games without a win etc but in this case I'm with you re GC. To be fair he has undoubtedly taken over a pile of cack and anyone would struggle to turn us into a mid-table outfit. But dogmatically sticking with tactics that aren't working and repeatedly playing players out of position gives me no confidence whatsoever. His recruitment has been poor. We're being convincingly beaten game after game, often failing to create even a few goalscoring opportunities. Yet GC is bewilderingly confident we can beat the drop having found many positives of a good CFC performance when the crowd has just witnessed the team be destroyed by the opponents. If it is true he's alienating himself from some of the players he's onto a loser, because the results, tactics and his interviews are only serving to alienate him from the fan base as well.

I don't think there is a huge gulf in quality between the bottom third of Div 1 & the top third of Div 2. As things stand I think with GC at the helm we'll finish at best mid-table next season. Post season is a wonderful opportunity for someone to rebuild the squad because of the number of out of contract players we have, a fair few of which are likely on a fair whack. We should be seen as an attractive opportunity for players as we'll be one of the bigger sides in Div 2. But, even if GC can build a good squad, I've no confidence he can get the results with it. And to get back to topic, I'd like Jones to be a CFC player next season.
