in my time of watching cfc we have come close to mounting a promotion to the 2nd tier on few occasions. my first season 80/81 we went very close, what followed was a gradual breaking up of that squad leading to our drop to div 4. the next time we got close was 95/96 season (15 YEARS) when we missed the play offs by one place, the following season we could perhaps have gone better but for the cup run, which btw I would not trade as it was amazing. Following the 96/97 the team began to break up and eventually we slipped down again. The next challenge came a couple of years ago 2014/15 (18 YEARS). and once more we witness that team being broken up until the inevitable relegation.
so is it going to take another 15-20 years before we challenge the top end of league one again? who knows, right now like many I am concerned for our long term league status and think it will be at best a long stay in league 2.

This side is not good enough for League 2. Just look at the stats against Cooky's Portsmouth game today.
They had 22 yes 22 shots and 8 of those on target. How many did we have. Other teams are right we are the worst side they have ever played.
Mr.Allen wake up and see the truth.

good point, not sure we've had 22 shots in the Caldwell era as yet.

2 shots for us today, nil on target and no corners. And to think there were some on here who said they were looking forward to the new manager's 'exciting' brand of football, ignoring the fact that the past manager and this this one are completely starved of any resources whatsoever.
