It's a very good question for the forthcoming forum. With his height pace and left foot there must be something serious we are all missing about his positional sense otherwise he'd be a championship player. There must be something in this 'cos all his managers have been prone to continually bullying him into taking up better positions from the touchline.
Let's think about his height, first of all, yes, he is tall but he is not very good in the air.
Pace, he has pace to burn, but he is not very good at getting past a player by dribbling or with trickery.
He has an excellent left foot but it is best displayed when he is at full stretch, running out of pitch, without time to think, and putting a cross in.
Defensively he is not the best and gets back into position a lot slower than he does when released to go forward on one of his runs.
Fitness wise he is not always available and not a 40 games a season type player.
Does that little summary help to explain why several managers "have been prone to continually bullying him into taking up better positions from the touchline". Problem is, he's no longer a spring chicken and still hasn't learned.
I believe he is one of our higher earners and, for me, he will have to accept a big wage cut if he is to be given another contract.
