79 was brill for a few months with all the bands
It is weird now because the main door to the winding wheel was the Odeon cinema door and the door to the left was the door to Jingles then Fusion - remember being thrown down them a few times over the years , also the Odeon use to be very busy in the afternoon ( especially in the colder months ) as the pubs were closed between 3 and 5.30 , you could hear cans rolling down the slope towards the screen , in the summer drinking in the churchyard was an option , or the !

Good and lager is a contradiction in terms

no it's not fish , the beer and lager was generally all crap in our day , other than the derby tup there was very little 30 years ago in the way of decent anything , used to drink Newcastle brown in sheff as it was reasonably safe , there is so much choice these days , I remember at the last barrow hill beer festival drinking all of the beer , but almost a lager , made with Seville oranges - it was amazing but such a distinctive taste , nothing like normal beer .

That Seville orange one sounds similar to one I tried when we went to the man behind the curtain restaurant in Leeds. Was a very nice drink!

Lager must have changed since you last properly drank it. Well, there's always Carling and Fosters which yeah you'd be right about, but there's loads of nicer bottled stuff usually in the fridges with different tastes. I used to drink loads of real ale and a lot of it tasted like dish water. Can't drink it now cos most of it seems to be fined by using dried fish bladders which is just... weird as hell.

You should try brewdog. the majority of the beers they do are vegan, I think there's maybe two that aren't.
They do make really nice beers

Really? I presumed most of the bigger ale breweries (Marstons etc) would use isinglass, but the smaller, more local ones do as well?

went last Friday to see tom hingley.
nice venue, fantastic sound quality.
be shut by end of year as its way too big for the acts they've had/got lined up.
crowds of 4-500 aren't good enough when the venue holds 1800.
shame.

Its as much a music venue as it is a nightclub so i suspect if they dont have acts etc lined up there is no guarantee they will open. Their upcoming gigs list did have something down for Saturday 1st so unsure why it was closed unless they'd done the gig and the closed.

I said when it opened they needed to get through even if they werent making that much to try and build a reputation within the music scene as much as with the public so they could attract some bigger acts that will attract bigger crowds. You see enough people from Chesterfield at gigs in Sheffield etc to suggest they could attract the crowds with the right gigs. The problem is getting in on the market with the more established places...in effect they are battling with the likes of the Leadmill, Plug and even Rock City in Nottingham which are well established, well known places.
