He was offered a trial with LS through GoPro football, following an open trial the weekend before at Barnet's ground. All looked very impressive, until the offer for the International Academy came through for which we'd have to pay between £700 & £900 per month (halfway between). Not sure what sort of jobs most people have, but mine certainly doesn't budget for that!!

F2. I must say I just don't understand the concept of paying to be an Academy footballer, in my youth you were scouted and brought in on 'schoolboy' terms, for which there was no cost whatsoever.

The coaches at that level, e.g. Harold Roberts, Sid Lancashire, Vic Wright at CFC knew every local player of note and, whether they were on our books, and could recite their strengths and weaknesses.

A question. Would Sam Clucas have to pay to join Glen Hoddles 'academy' or was it a scholarship?

In most cases it's a money making racket giving false hope to kids who are never going to make the step up to professional football.

If they were good enough most of them would already be on local clubs radar.

'local' being the key word. This is mostly about taking money off rich foreigners.

These things are set up ostensibly to make money, the odd lad may progress to a proper academy but they will be in a very small minority.

Interestingly I met a footballing mum this evening, who when I told her I was from Chesterfield asked me if I'd heard of the Development centre. Apparently LS and co visited her son's school and identified a number of decent players. They were then handed a letter inviting them to the DC. After a few visits it is alleged LS said a chance would be given in the academy if said parent signed up to monthly payments at the DC.

Surely the boy in question should be given an opportunity in an academy based on his ability and potential, and not his parents willingness to hand over cash.

For my own protection I'd like to add that this is purely what I was told by someone who I have never met before, therefore I cannot be sure whether this account is factually sound.

Barnet host trials for a company called Football CV which are basically an open trial (Barnet just host it and nothing to do with them- other venues also host them). Loads of (professional) scouts go officially (not jokers like this Liam geezer). If your son is deemed good enough he will make it.

Avoid scams like the £700 (WTF!!!) one like the plague

In your example, Football CV presumably are receiving subs from all the players at the trials? They then 'sell' their best prospects to other clubs who have scouted them?

This is tittle tattle, but I was told one reason for that is to simplify the players' registrations with the FA. It might also 'simplify' the costs to LS's enterprise but that's just me stirring. The DC, now PPP, used to have 2 'Chesterfield FC' teams, 'A' and 'B' but I've lost touch now and can't be assed to investigate. I also heard allegations which can't possibly be true that an additional vehicle had been acquired by CFC to transport these additional bodies. This seems so far fetched that it's hardly worth mentioning.

Given the speed at which some other scurrilous rumours have been 'put to bed' either directly on here or by way of a 'mediator' then its definitely worth mentioning, even if it is dismissed as false.

(I've no connection with them btw just have used them for scouting players a few times and seem decent).

No the players pay for the one off trial and scouts are invited via their clubs and then anyone they consider good enough are contacted from that (with no money changing hands apart from player initially (well parents) to company.
Just a lazy way for us to scout some keen available players really

Surely Sir Rodder's people would have insisted prior to their "takeover" of CFC Int, that the use of the CFC logo was included in the sale agreement as it's the only USP they have over their competitors.

Well clearly there's still work to do.

But then if Sutcliffe's paying for the privilege of using the badge, just as if he's paying the same, some might argue extortionate price charged to fans for hourly use of the stadium, I've no problem.

Maybe Ashley can supply evidence that's the case whilst we're waiting for the trip booking evidence promised last November.

Then we can only hope bills accumulated by Sutcliffe don't result in the Club issuing a CCJ...
