-The owners are prepared to run it at a loss for a few months until it's established
-The go for big acts that are playing academy size venues (over 500 capacity) as it's got big capacity
-Looking at initial listings it's all Indie bands. Needs a bigger mix to stop it been pigeon holed
-when bands ain't on have a theme night, old school dance, indie night, house music night. Loads of late bars/small nightclubs in town with free admission playing cheesy music by a laptop operator using same playlist every week

Carling premier still in White swan and nice too. Mind only know 3 other places doing it UK wide and pretty hard to find in cans too. Shame better than this craft treacle beer
Never seen Carling Premier in White Swan!
They sell it in cans in the 'Open Most Hours' shop on Old Hall Road.

Unlike lagers real ales are all different. Different colours and very different tastes. Plus they don't have to chilled to almost 0C to make them saleable

I've just come out of Einsteins. Probably 15 different draft lagers. All sorts of styles. I like real ale but there's plenty of good lagers too.

This...I like a decent pint of real ale but these days lager is far more than the likes of carling or fosters. Some of the American craft stuff is very nice just like many of the continental ones that you'll see in places like Einsteins.
Dissing all lagers is just some petty real ale snobbery.

And the Phoenix is now Spa Lane, though presumably expanded. I can remember on a very early venture into town as a 16 year old (1996) drinking in there, drinking neat vodka (he had no ice) and playing pool at the front of the pub with at least one of the windows in the pub cracked or smashed.

Definitely was. Can't have closed long after as we were the only people in. At that age you went where you knew you'd be served and there and the Buck (my favourite) were about the only 100% certs.
