Wilson's best team might look a bit like -
Lee
McGinn, Evatt, Hird, Jones
Ariyibi, Martinez, Donohue, O'Shea
Evans, Wilkinson
Can you spot the problem?

Again I'm wondering if our dearth of credible midfielders has seen Martinez's cache raised to unrealistic levels.
He's played just three games for us, which is only one less than his entire contribution the previous season.
And Donohue?
Done okay in an unfamiliar position, yet we've seen next to nothing of him in central midfield.
I take your point, 'dtp' - Wilson's never really been able to field a first choice starting eleven - just as I recognise it's a problem beyond his creation.
However I do feel the time has come to admit we've seen too many disorganised and defensive defeats from a side struggling past the hour mark.

Your right. Absolutely spot on. But why does our manager insist on picking him? Even worse, why the hell does he insist on leaving him on the pitch when he strolls around without a care in the world.

Whether Wilson knows his best formation or not, he always plays Ariyibi in his 'best' position. I cannot recall Ariyibi playing out of position?
At Barnsley end of last season he looked excellent. He ran their full backs and got decent balls into the box. He caused major problems for a side who got promoted. Problem is I've not seen him anything other than poor since that game. Against Bolton he had a couple of opportunities where the CH's came over to cover their full backs yet he failed to even attempt to take them on. It was crying out for him to run at the giant, lumbering CH out of position but he played a ball inside into a crowded midfield. Dire decision making is unlikely to improve whether he plays for us, Blunts or Barcelona.

In a nutshell! Yes he will look better in a better team, but the trouble is that the better a team is they want better more consistent performers and they'd quickly lose patience with him, and he'd soon become the forgotten man. He needs a team like Rochdale, a little team that shines and is still within his abilities, who can put up more with his poor decision making and inconsistent shows. The trouble is that these type of teams usually don't want to waste what little resources they have on players of this ilk (note for town here) nor can afford what we would want for him, nor what he'd want in wages, so it's catch 22. Will there be somebody desperate enough to take a punt who can also afford him?? Or is he destined for a move when his contract runs out; though I still don't see him having many (if any) takers from the level above tbf, and from his point of view that's no bad thing either!

Gboly looks destined to be a permanent bench man at a club higher up the pyramid. These clubs can afford to pay him the wages to sit on the halfway line and come on for the last few minutes, or start when he occasionally hits the form he is capable of. In fact like many a winger in the English game. He is too much of a luxury at our level.

I agree with you regarding Angel, Chris, but my main point was that DW has never been able to field whatever he may think could be our strongest side. Whether they are good enough or not remains to be seen but, this season, we have had up to 10 players injured at any one time. If they had been available I have no doubt, though, that our squad would have been stronger.
As for Donohue, I put him there as a "for instance" and just to emphasise that if Jones ever returns back to a reasonable standard then Dion, in my opinion, has been one of our most consistent performers this season and deserves a starting place.
Midfield and defence (never mind attack) have been majorly problematic this season so, again, I made 3 changes in defence and 2 in midfield just to show the depth of the problem. And, by the way, I don't think Hird and Evatt together are good enough.

I know they aren't good enough together.

He won't even make the benches higher up the pyramid after a while imo. Without signing as a free agent then I don't see anybody from a higher level coming in for him again either without a really cheeky, test the water bid to see if we are prepared to cash in for next to nowt (and even then they've got to be desperate)
Agree with the bit in bold (unless you are a club that plays decent attacking football, certainly not one that doesn't and is scraping about in the bottom four)
