Heartbreaking again. Another defensive line up yet, unlike the mediocrity away at Southend, we were much better and didn't deserve to lose; er... we didn't deserve to win either.
Two poor teams. Gardener hit the post and we held the ball and passed very well in the first half but creating chances was always a problem. Charlton also hit the post (Ajose,) thanks to Fulton narrowing the angle. The first half resembled a low key practice passing game.
The second half. Charlton upped the tempo, the fans got behind them and, for fifteen minutes, it looked like we were going to be overwhelmed but we kept calm and passed our way out of trouble holding onto the ball for the next five minutes or so but rarely getting in their penalty area. Charlton came again for another spell and again we took control holding on to the ball. A draw seemed a good bet.
We defended from the half way line, rarely in their half, preferring to let them have the ball. What few attacking positions we got into never came to much. Then Charlton missed a simple header that should have been 2-0.
A failure to track Novak (87min) gave him a free header and all our good work was down the drain.
Our possession had been good and we didn't look like a relegation side today.
Graham looked like a mature player. Dan Gardner had a good game as well and was making a difference. Ched never had a sniff. Aribyi, still no end game. Evatt was solid and I think I prefer him to Anderson
