Knocked the bails off with his gloves whilst keeping wicket and claimed the batsmen had been bowled and umpire took his word for it.

Does YDCL still allow bowlers to bowl as many overs as they want - could be a barrier to coming into the DCCL if you suddenly need 4 or 5 bowlers instead of 2!

No, changed probably 7 years ago. In between Sheepbridge moving to the DCCL and me moving from Sheepbridge to Hundall.

Maximum of 12 per bowler now.

out of interest, do you know why Hundall never bothered having a go in the DCCL when they used to win the YDCL every year?

Would you expect more teams to join DCCL now that Apperknowle, Baslow, Holmesfield and even Buxton have done so?

Very good question. I'm not really sure, it was a bit before me time in all honesty. Something I'd like thinking about now though!

Reckon a few teams from 1 might follow suit now Holmesfield have left, probably see Parkhead & Hollinsend go South Yorkshire league way though.

Looking at Baslows stats they seem very reliant on three players, 2 batting were way ahead of anyone else and only one bowler actually took enough wickets to make the league averages despite them walking the league. Be interesting to see how far that gets them. Only name of the three i recognise is Chris Cowley who has played a decent standard with Bolsover and Cutthorpe in the past.

And Sheepbridge back in the day!

His dad still plays and he must be well into his 70s.

That was his speciality! Used to use his pad when standing up to the spinners too.

Charlie Wall who plays for Baslow played for Sheffield Collegiate for many years and played when they won the Hational Knockout at Lords. He was a very hard hitting batsman and medium paced bowler in his prime.
I reckon he will be around the 47/48 mark.I think he has scored five hundreds this year.

Yep saw them earlier. Looks like Holmewood survived further demotion over the Junior set up stuff. We're, as expected, still in 4N and 6N.

Only one completely new ground for me as never played at the new Spondon setup but a couple in Holmesfield and Darley Abbey i havent been to for a while and the joys of Selston again!!

Selston is decent enough now - they do a lot of work on the ground themselves

Yes, it appears our work on the junior set up did not go un noticed

Division 3 not too bad for travelling, 8N has Spondon and Allestree and Cutthorpe come in

Div 3 was looking ok for travelling as it was southern sides making up the bottom 3 in the main and of the three that went up you have Belper and Mickleover which isnt to bad. Spondon probably our furthest trip whilst i now have two away games within about 15mins with the Barbs and Holmesfield...what normally happens is they both fall whilst i cant play.

No surprise the DCCL is more organised than the YDCL! We might see ours next march if we are lucky.

Its actually a bit of a surprise we've not had stuff before this to be honest, i only noticed on the website just by looking. We've normally had an email with all the details not long after the league meeting to sort it which was last Wednesday. Suspect preliminary fixtures will be out by the end of October at the latest giving clubs a few weeks to reorganise games for whatever reason.

I suspect the extending of the season by a week instead of a double header to finish will stay meaning that this change to have few double weekends actually mean we as a club have more due to sharing the ground with football meaning we lose the ground for the first weekend and the last two.

You sort of get used to it with the DCCL...its not perfect with a lot of things but you cant fault the organisation in terms of things like this.

Looks like I've done the YDCL an injustice, league structure already up on their website.

Ashford in the Water, Bakewell, Calver & Grindleford all in our league so looks like we will be spending a fair share of our time out that way.

YDCL - 10 teams in a division and only 9 in Division 2?

18 or 16 games a season?

Not much cricket if a few get rained off
