But, has he actually made more mistakes than Evatt, Hird, McGinn, Nolan, Gardner, O'Shea etc that have cost us?

I would say yes.

But it's not just about the mistakes, it's about what we're not getting from our left back in terms of delivery and attacking threat.

It's not his position. He doesn't seem suited to it.

That sent a shiver down my spine.
Do you think Stirk had played a lot of rugby in his youth and he thought the idea was to kick into touch to gain ground?

Don't know about that but after a couple of games the local pigeon population got wise and vacated the stand roof

Something I actually agree with you about - he's not managed 90 minutes since Danny was appointed.

Even if he does come back into the side is he going to be better than young Dion with Gardner in front of him and a more than slow centre-back at the side of him?

If Jones could keep injury free e's certainly got to be first choice, Dion is not a LB.

I hope that's a joke!

Donohue isn't half the player Jones is. Certainly not at left back.

I think what Dave meant to put is that at the present moment in time Donohue is better than Jones.......seeing as Jones is injured!

He probably gets forward more times than you care to see but sometimes he is left high and dry, his critics would say "out of position", from the likes of Gardners fancy back-heel, on Saturday, to an opponent leaving both Dan and Dion trying to recover - guess which one recovered best!

In the distant past many a time Jones failed to get back as quickly as he got forward when either losing the ball or hitting a cross straight to a defender.

A full-backs first duty is to defend and unless the bloke in front of you, or your centre-back, is prepared to cover when you advance forward then you are on a hiding to nothing.

It's not about being prepared to cover it's about having the footballing brain to see the potential danger and filling in. Gardner for example doesn't have a clue on how to cover or any of his own positional sense. It seems strange that a professional footballer, who must be told time and tine again, just doesn't get it, when it's basic that you teach kids
