1 - Er, yes. Working in this industry means I 'kind of' get that concept. My point - which you may not have yet realised - is that last year, DW would have been told the budget for this year and to cut his cloth accordingly. Seeing as though DW played Gboly sparingly, but more than Dean Shambles, you could be forgiven if you assumed that Gboly might feature more this season, which he has.

If DW knew that Gboly would feature more and play a more significant role, then you might again assume that he asked his CEO to extend his contract LAST season, so that we didn't face this current again - one that bears more than a passing resemblance to Sam Morsy.

So, if Gboly was upset last year that he didn't get the playing time he wanted before the change in manager, and then saw this and his mood improve under DW, why would he play roulette with his career to such an extent that an untried and unproven L1 player would become a free agent in 12 months, when he wasn't a starter in the XI to begin with?

2 - Player and agent can only become aware of suitors after a string of performances that draw attention. That's only happened this season, according to reports.

3 - This statement would imply that Gboly is 'reasonably' happy with the amount of football at the moment, and the promise of more of the same. Whereas Barnsley or anyone else can offer more money, can they promise him 90 minutes each week? At this stage of his development, he needs to be playing every week in order to keep progressing.

Questions arising from your third point - Is DW directly involved in the contract negotiations, or is that being left to CT? Is CT reporting to DW that things are going well? Is that a help or a hindrance?

So, if it is as simple as you say, why is so many clubs fail to grasp the nettle?

Nail on head. I wouldn't be surprised if his agent hasn't been made aware of Barnsley's interest since the end of last season when he ripped them apart for our winning goal. "If he becomes available we're interested." sort of thing. The agent realises his potential as much as we do but I personally think if he gets a full season with us before he goes it will be win-win all round - club, player , agent and fans.

I would think the agent and Gboly's mind was made up about not signing a new contract back in January after his performance at Rochdale. Of course he is inconsistent, as are most wingers apart from the best. After all there has to be good full backs also.

However what a lot wingers can't do is have a day like Gboly did at Rochdale, and then later at Barnsley. Watching the Liverpool game, the £34M Mane put in a turn of pace a la Aryibi, creating a goal, the commentators were purring.

2. - This hasn't only happened this season. His display at Rochdale last season was amazing - Hill subbed the left back after 20 minutes and the new man fared no better against his pace and trickery. And that led to more frequent excellent displays that scouts cannot have failed to notice. Watch the highlights of Barnsley v Town for a bit of magic. Clubs will have been sniffing a lot longer than this last few days I reckon.

Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

A potential problem is the player and agent being more interested in £s in the short term than developing the player's career in the longer term

You are right. Of course they have. He was showing some really strong potential last season. Difficult to be sure but he could be PL one day as he has pace strength and skill. He could be as good as Sturridge.

The idea that his potential is some sort of secret or has only been recognised by a few who watch Town is fanciful to put it mildly. Even before a ball had been kicked this season the Oxford manager was warning in his pre-match interviews that Chesterfield had two players who could be playing at the top end of the Championship or even in the Premiership. Every club in our League and beyond will have tracked him. No prizes for guessing the two he was referring to.

We'll never know but I expect he would have signed an extension last year in a minute and have been grateful for it

He could be teaming back up with super Sam Morsy as there's a rumour on the Tykes board that they've had a bid rejected for him. To say they've had one heck of a windfall they don't like splashing the cash... Tight yorkshire ****s

Rather SM went there than Rammel Lane. At least it's championship football.
Just seen there was 40k gate at Chelsea, Bristol rovers must have made a bit tonight

I'm told G'boly doesn't have an agent and we've received bids from a couple of clubs both well short, so won't be selling yet. It's proving difficult to sort out an extended contract given this will also mean a large pay increase.

He should get what he deserves relative to the lads. If he's only on £500pw and most of his team mates are on treble that or more then he's right to seek parity.

He still listed by Full Contact as "footballers we work with"

As far as his current pay is concerned as he signed an extension when he was fringe player so won't be on that much. A large pay increase is probably due especially as he is one of DA's favourites

The number of re-tweets by @danfullcontact would suggest they still look after him.
