I was shown a group (Chesterfield FC Fans Group) on Facebook earlier today. It would appear the DT are coming in for some stick on there regarding the paper's negative stance.

Seems like some people don't want to hear bad news regarding the club. Well if they want to play ostriches then it's up to them, but I believe most people would prefer the truth out in the open even if it hurts. Only then will enough pressure bear on the perpetrators to rectify things.

Such a poll loses all credence when choices like option 4 are available, more so when people actually chose them.

Also, options 5+6 are rubbish, and not really alternatives to options 1 or 2!

I see the Child Foundation was selected as CFC's chosen charity for the year.

Thankfully the majority of town fans aren't as negative as some on here...

Indeed. And some people are prepared to act to ensure that not only can they do so, their children can too.

If whoever's behind this really does 'contact the CEO of Johnstone Press' (and why no plans to contact the CEO of CFC? Why the automatic assumption it's the DT who're wrong?) maybe he'll learn what they believe but are yet to publish.

Assuming he doesn't sit there with fingers jammed in ears, eyes squeezed tightly shut and repeating 'negative...negative...negative...', throughout their exchange, of course.

Straight question - as a clearly intelligent bloke, do you believe the statement released about Higgins' non attendance?

i don't know mate, i don't see anything sinister in the idea of the raffle etc and a southern spireite would explain why nobody on here knew them, the removal of the links etc doesn't look clever... i'm more annoyed that the club didn't go down the Oxford route with the game though, absolutely love Budapest and with the right marketing i think we would've took a few hundred across.

I tend to agree.

This could have been some much needed positive PR for the Club; the novelty of a pre-season game abroad, an opportunity for folk to combine a Town match with a week in the sun, pictures of the raffle winner excitedly receiving his tickets, pictures of an equally excited party of Town fans boarding the plane, pictures of them enjoying the Budapest >ahem< 'hospitality', pictures of locals in Town shirts, etc, etc, etc.

However instead the whole thing just appears seedy and suspicious, with a hugely convenient excuse for James Higgins absence suddenly appearing when it's revealed a bona-fide Town fan was actually at the game. It's almost as if they had something to hide.

Whoever's handled it needs a well placed kick up the jacksy.
