Oxford United sign ‘£100 million’ player on loan
James Robinson
As predictions go, Chris Evans’ claims about who would be the first player to break the £100million barrier were bold.
Evans was assistant manager of Bolton four years ago when he named Wolves midfielder Zele Ismail as the man to hit the milestone.
"If he continues his progress up to the age of 21 he will become priceless. People are talking about him being a £100m player one day." -Evans
Nothing jinxes a career like proclaiming a kid as the future most expensive player on the planet before he’s even played a senior game.
Unfortunately Ismail didn’t continue his progress, with loan spells at MK Dons, Burton Albion and Notts County failing to back up the hype.
And now, aged 22, he’s rocked up at Oxford for a season-long loan, which isn’t exactly going to send his value sky-rocketing.
You know what they say… It's a funny old game.
