Nail......on head
The only way this will work is IF the F A listen to the players , take their suggestions , and use it as a vehicle to completely discount every single candidate the players
come up with

I was told that when Lee Richardson got the Town job the dressing room gave him a round of applause.
That ended well, didn't it.
Seems to me the trio entrusted with making this decision are passing the buck, so to speak.

Quite right Bonny. What we need is a strong minded character that won't allow these self-important, underperforming clowns to rule the roost. I would like to see someone come in that is willing to, and allowed to, rustle a few feathers and upset the apple cart a bit. We are all sick and tired of seeing the same old dross served up by the same old failures.
It's quite obvious that the senior players will want either mates or individuals they can walk all over.
Regarding the players being unimpressed by the quality of candidates, why? Because these candidates haven't won anything or been successful at international level?? I'm thinking a touch of hypocrisy may have crept in and a long hard look in the mirror is required from some of our 'stars'.

They probably realised they had someone else to blame.

Y'mean like, oooh, I dunno; a Fabio Capello?
We've had a disciplinarian like him; we've had the gentlemanly, experienced yet totally uninspiring Hodgson; we've had Steve McLaren referring to his players as 'Stevie G' and 'JT'; we've had a Swede who spent as much time in the gossip 'zines as his charges; we've had the passionate but clueless Keegan and we've had Hoddle, who though a clearly talented coach had the man-management skills of Brian Glover in 'Kes'.
And we've had a succession of 'root and branch' enquiries that've concluded there're not enough quality coaches at every level, not enough opportunities for our youngsters and the whole structure of our game just isn't conducive to international football.
Yet nothing...ever...changes.
Having teenagers cleaning bogs and boots instead of thinking they've 'arrived' before they've even won a trophy would be a start. It's about time they realised the only bling that really matters resides inside a trophy cabinet.

There's nothing wrong with the disciplinarian approach. It worked at Manchester United domestically for a number of years. The difference is that Sir Alex had the support of his employers whereas, point in question, the FA seem hell bent on letting the players call the shots.

Exactly, the FA had the right man in Capello, but the wrong squad of totally inept prima Donna ass holes ruling the roost under him.

To them it is a few weeks in a 5 star hotel and time to catch up with the latest new tunes.
Apparently they were invited to go to a war memorial whilst in Chantilly and nobody wanted to go...
The hammers are good at pointing out if a player isn't fit to wear the shirt - they should enjoy this season.

Gary Neville - somehow - was listed as a contender. Imagine the future process with the captain involved...
Rooney: Ere Gaz, you'd pick me for England, wouldn't you?
Neville: Yeah Wazza, sure.
Rooney: And I can still be captain?
Neville: Absolutely.
Rooney calls the FA and says he's backing GNev from hereon in
Treble pink gins all round and another all expenses paid jolly for the 3 wise monkeys. Qualification from a mediocre group, higher than need be expectations, capitulation in competition accompanied by jingoistic xenophobia and mass disappointment, sacking/ resignation, navel-gazing, and repeat...
Cynial - moi?

If they don't buy into it don't pick them..it's too far gone when even the FA are in the pockets of the top earners, sorry players.

Players need to be confident that the manager has clear tactics for every game and that all changes are deliberate/tactical

Thierry Henry was right on the first episode of the Euros when he said a team with togetherness, team spirit will win the tournament.......Italy v Wales final
England should take note how these teams conduct themselves & how they are managed....look at Coleman, it's like he's made all that team best friends...it's awesome.
Unfortunately we will pay someone £5m a year & lead us to another disaster.....you can't manage over inflated egos...that every player playing for England has!! Drop the egotistical players & pick championship players!!!
