Yes I must admit I don't think he's been best advised with that statement at all.

I think that statement is fake, only seen a possibly photoshopped sky sports tv photo doing the rounds, no such quote reported on their website or on any other official medium

Some people not mentioning any names were quick to get the knife in. And quick to believe anything negative.

No one on this board knows whether he committed the crime or not as none of us were there.

One conclusion I have reached is that Macdonald should never have been charged. There is a real story in there somewhere about the competence of policing and collusion with the CPS in that era. He should sue them.

There is no evidence against him. It was a miscarriage of justice.

I can't quite believe the tone of that statement if I'm honest. Things in black and white can be taken out of context which I accept, but it can construed as...

"Yeah I'm here when I actually deserve better, and I feel the need to mention that, as by the way, I have played for much bigger clubs you know, but hey ho these are the ones I've signed with, for now anyway..."

When I would hope for..

"I'm grateful to Chesterfield FC for believing in me, they've given me an opportunity most wouldn't and I'm grateful for that. I will give them 100% and do my best"

Something to that effect would've been a little easier to accept and kept my eyebrows on my face.

Struggling to find any of these alledged "statements", can you post a link?

The only one I can find is

"I am very excited and privileged to be resuming my career at Chesterfield and I hope to make a valuable contribution both on and off the pitch for the football club, the fans and the community."

Which seems more in line with the one you hoped for

Think Ched will have much bigger plans after us, his statement upon joining the club.....

“I have played in the Premier League and for Wales” said Evans. “I hope to be able to do both again and whilst not quite what I aimed for, Chesterfield could be the stepping stone I need to get back there.”

Gee thanks 😳

This statement has been confirmed as a hoax and he released a much better one thankfully, it won't let me edit it so I'll fully retract it as a load of crap :)

Not very clever. There is enough genuine sticks to beat Evans up with, without providing bogus/stupid statements that some actually want to believe. It soons become gospel

Actually rolling my eyes here. It was a mistake, I admitted I'd made a mistake, I've provided the real link, you think that will damage his rep more than it already is?!? Seriously. Would you like a stick to beat me with?

Also take a look at the CPS statement after his conviction, very happy to have secured such a high profile conviction

Main difference is we get paid for challenging in the FA Cup (not much though with how far we usually get) but when it came to me fighting it sadly I didn't have the money to do so, i wish Ched Evans's father in law was on hand maybe it would have turned out different.

I don't interpret it like that at all; it is very matter of fact rather than 'happy'...

As for the MacDonald piece, what's his dad, Rod, got to do with it....'who also played for Walsall'...yeah, and? You can feel the writers stance. It's this kind of opportunity where he could have said something like: I've learned from this experience, I had no idea who she was, it was 4am and she'd clearly had too many; it would have been better to put her in a taxi and send her home rather than take her to my hotel, (which me and Ched had purposely booked for this particular eventuality and which I had no intention of staying in whatsoever) for a shag and text Ched to specifically inform him I'd got a 'girl' for us to use like a piece of meat. I now have more respect for women and my moral behaviour has vastly improved.
