I agree, and also with your previous comments. A lot of people here seem to think that football goes on in some sort of bubble, where any behaviour is acceptable as long as it brings 3 points and an excuse to punch the air and shout. And worryingly that mindset seems to extend to the people that run the club. This is a desperate and shabby signing. Furthermore, regardless of what may or may not be said during the retrial, you can expect Evans' defence team to hold up this contract as some sort of character reference. The club is being used. Those of us who live outside the bubble have one form of sanction, I suggest we use it.

The defence team would do no such thing knowing his situation four years on is irrelevant. In fact he's probably reduced his compensation for being wrongly convicted by obtaining employment with us

If I see Bob Newton down the boozer in a bit I'll ask him his opinion on it.

Tell him he's a **** from me....

As for Evans, I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that, if given the right supply, he will pick up where he left off....four years away is nothing to someone so prolific; boxers have returned after years away and won titles. Once he is conditioned, he will be as good as he was. That said....there are other issues at stake here.

Agree he is innocent until proven guilty.am would give him benefit of the doubt.I was told in early may he was signing in st Helens pub and posted what I heard on here. the club must have some inside info about is case thay he will be found not guilty in Oct.otherwise thay would not have signed ched Evans we surely can't be that incompetent can we ?

You only love him because he raped a woman and want the controversy in the same way you attach yourself to the likes of Farage

Did he?

So Elton, whether he is guilty or not is the only thing that matters?

We'll see

As far as you are concerned? or everyone else?

Innocent or not we should have stayed well clear! Why get ourselves involved with all that will come with this signing? Why split the director's and fans relations even further? And even risk dividing the fans?

Madness in my view. I mean... it's not as there aren't any other strikers about. At least they will have kicked a football in the last four years! A massive gamble for me, and not one that I can say I'm proud of either, innocent or not.

My own view exactly. I really am wishing I hadn't handed over my cash for a season ticket now.

Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but given the situation, it might be wise to remove accusations of rape against an innocent man. Disregarding the libel/slander angle; this is contempt of court.

Not being the 'language police', just giving a heads-up.

He had one good season nothing spectacular before that. And hasn't even trained professionally for four years. You' d think we'd signed Messi from some of the reactions on here. I'm sick to my stomach about this.
"Its much more important than that !"

I applaud all you Spireites that take a moral stand against your club for signing this piece of filth.

It'll be a good price of business when we sell him to Portsmouth.

I think his conviction will probably be overturned. The ones who say they aren't going again are entitled to feel that way, not everyone follows the same thought and moral path as others. If they feel that way then that's fine and should not be vilified for it. They are no more or less a Spireite for that decision it's their free will.

However if his conviction is completely overturned then people must accept he is cleared and get over whatever their problem is.
Judgement should be reserved until early October when the re-trial is over. Then and only then can anyone take a stance morally. IF he is cleared I might add that the young lady in question needs to face charges herself for lying.
Unfortunately the attention bought to the club will be unbearable for some, as was the case for thousands of Sufc fans who were literally branded rape apologists for their club thinking of letting him train with them let alone actually sign.
I've also seen somewhere the Cfc PR described as being 'genius'
Righto.
Now that did make me laugh. Not the word i'd use for them at all.

I am no longer a Chesterfield supporter. This is the end. Hope the club goes bankrupt and I hope Ched Evans rots in hell. They are made for each other. They have betrayed the fans.

Not too happy about this signing because of his apparent character, if he is found guilty then it seems he will be dismissed, if innocent there are far worse people who have found redemption in the public eyeI assume there have been detailed talks with his lawyers regarding the outcome of the retrial. It also wouldn't surprise me if the club gets some sort of financial support from the father of his fiancé

The way I see it is this. Up to the conviction being quashed he was guilty and as such I wanted him no where near the club. The conviction has been quashed and he is now innocent so we should have no problems signing him. However if found guilty in October at his retrial which I doubt will be the case then I will want him gone. Lets all settle down a little and pass judgement after the retrial.

That's far too judgemental.
There could be a new witness or, God forbid, the police could have been withholding evidence which might have helped the defence. They were desperate for a conviction.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Obviously you never were. No matter how bad things get a supporter would never wish the demise of the club they support. So urine off please and don't ever come back

So, just to clarify, essentially you are saying the police withheld evidence?

That's fine I wished he had gone somewhere else, but In all honesty what if you had signed him, especially if he scored against us wouldn't have cheered would you?
