Folk seem to have missed the tweet from Biggs i posted earlier stating the signing will be reviewed should he be found guilty....as it stands we've signed someone who is not guilty and has a court case pending and we're probably not the first club to have done that.

Spot on Jon

All the stuff relating to his trial aside, what an inept decision to sign him on a one year contract!!!

We are going to get pilloried by all and sundry for this; but if his retrial goes as expected, and he bags 20 or 30 then he'll just be off next season and we'll have sod all to show for it money wise. Maybe they've written something into the contract; but I'm not holding my breath.

Apparently there is an option for extra years included in the contract he's signed.

Seems there were other clubs interested in signing him currently and you can suspect if the retrial ends not guilty then there would have been clubs a lot bigger than us eyeing him up as well. Seems a gamble to get in early but we can can things if the retrial goes the other way.

Conviction quashed.

All evidence points towards a successful retrial.

If he can reproduce his form prior to the event, then it's a hell of a signing

Welcome and good luck Ched.

*Disclaimer - In now way do I condone rape, but as he stands he's guilty of nothing other than being a silly boy.

I take it you don't have daughters, and if you do well, wow.......

From what I've read most if not all of the new evidence for the retrial is said to help the defence case. Therefore I would think it highly unlikely he will get anything added to the sentence he has already served.

Hopefully he is proven innocent, massive gamble

Don't understand the posts about withdrawing support for the club though, as it stands the guy is innocent, if he is proven guilty we get rid and if he is innocent he continues to play

The irony of having three blokes on the front of the shirt, looking at what must surely be a masterplan of how to ruin a club that was seemingly on the up a mere 13 or 14 months ago!

Silly boy? Do any reading about the case and he is a loathsome piece of work whether guilty or not. Still, a good signing eh? Never mind role models and treatment of women, never mind making the club despised across the land and dividing the fan-base, never mind the lower crowds and all the media that goes with the signing, never mind the club stating how 'delighted' they are to sign a man who is on trial for rape in October: sticking the ball in the back of the net is all that counts.

Oliver Holt is going to have a field day, and the club is becoming (even more of) a circus

IF innocent he probably treats women no different to many other footballers!

Spot on. A sad day for the club. A sad day especially for female supporters of the club.

We should've waited for the result of the retrial. This is reckless.

I tend to agree with this .

'Chesterfield Football Club have given a great deal of thought to this signing'

Er.... no

Quite apart from all the baggage and inevitable media frenzy, negative publicity is the fact he's not played for 4 years... are we really that desperate?

I think it's a gamble, but if the contract is drawn up correctly in our favour, one that could pay off.

As for all the 'have you got daughters' comments... if you have, tell them not to have concensual sex with strangers you've known for about 5 minutes. I was happy to see his sleazy behaviour exposed, but there are people on the BBC reporting on the world cup who did the same(well reported in the press at the time).

I believe in equality. Being drunk is no excuse for rape, and as such, being drunk is no excuse for absolving yourself of responsibility for your actions.

Good. Then I think it may be a gamble worth taking.
