I have always thought his conviction would be overturned, based on the fact that if having sex with someone who was blind drunk with a bunch of your teammates was considered rape; half the premier league players would be in jail.
That said; this will bring seriously bad publicity on the club. I just hope his contract is drawn up in a way that he can be given the push immediately if he is found guilty at the retrial. Though I'm fairly certain he won't be.

history has shown on a number of occassions once sportsmen step on the field they can shut out the off field, he's had plenty of time to regret and focus, theres nothing he can do only his legal team, and he's now innocent until proven guilty!

I want to cry. I am staggered. This isn't an overreaction either, this is the reaction of someone who genuinely cares about the role models that the kids in the family stand see pulling on our shirt. Imagine having to explain to my four year old daughter what a rapist is or even an Alleged rapist is should I decide to take her.
And there lies the real problem. Guilty or not it sends out entirely the wrong message. Hey kids, treat women like pieces of meat and the world can be yours too!
A disgusting move on the part of the board and tells you everything you need to know about how our club is being run.

Has he shown any regret......as far as I recall he has only appologised to his girlfriend/fiance not to the girl involved. I see you are reverting to type and defending the indefensible again! Please don't turn into my thought police thank you, I have made my views clear, do not comment on my posts again!

i'm pretty sure he's got plenty of regret, but if he is genuinely innocent then who else would he apologise to........ some people on this board... if we signed inieta some sad *** on here would say he's too bald, the most negative group of football fans i've ever seen...don't bother going is all i can say...

Smacks of desperation from a desperate club in free fall who - and here is the point again , just in a different thread, do not seem to give two shiny shits about our fan base or reputation.

We are going to get pilloried by all and sundry for this; but if his retrial goes as expected, and he bags 20 or 30 then he'll just be off next season and we'll have sod all to show for it money wise. Maybe they've written something into the contract; but I'm not holding my breath.

All evidence points towards a successful retrial.
If he can reproduce his form prior to the event, then it's a hell of a signing
Welcome and good luck Ched.
*Disclaimer - In now way do I condone rape, but as he stands he's guilty of nothing other than being a silly boy.
